Smith & Wesson:
-M & P Shield EZ .380 plus a locking hard case ($25 value) is $329.99 at Buds, Cabelas, and elsewhere.

Remington:
-[Rebate info removed due to being inaccurate info]
-All Remington handguns are also 20% off at Cabelas, making the effective price of the RP9 $195, and the other two well under $200.

I know; the R51 is a dog, and the other two have mixed reviews, but....there ya go.

Many other mfrs rebates running around right now, too.

I don't think the RM380 has mixed reviews. I haven't scoured the Internet, but I only read good things about the RM380 here at The High Road. The RM380 is probably the most underrated gun out there.

Somehow people seem to think that issues with the R51 taint the RM380.

I wishRemington hadn't messed with the Rohrbaugh's design at all, but my 2 RM380s run like champs - no malfunctions. I paid $99.99 for my second RM380, its the best handgun bargain ever.

The RM380 requires small hands.
I have relatively large hands with short fingers and I had trouble firing it without having to shift my grip. That from a guy with a LCP (not a LCP II) that isn't exactly known for a short pull.

Where have you found a manufacturer rebate from Remington? The only promo they're offering right now is a free bag.

How is the accuracy with your RM380s? Mine runs great, but the trigger pull makes you pull the gun off target. You have to pull all the way to the back and it feels like the trigger isn’t going to break. You then have to pull even harder and it finally breaks, but you usually pull the gun of target.

I have an RM380. I have large hands with long fingers. It took practice to get used to the trigger. I actually like it without the magazine extensions. I have no problem putting all rounds in the boiler room of a full sized silhouette target at 10 yards rapid fire. I have nearly a 1000 rounds through my gun with ZERO malfunctions with many brands of ammo and bullet configurations.

I also have a Remington R51...I won’t taint my good opinions of the RM380 talking about this piece of...junk.

I don't think it's the R51 exclusively, though surely that's part of it. It's more to do with Freedom Group's degradation of overall brand quality: Shipping rusty guns, out of spec chambers, rifles that fire with the safety off, etc. To a lot of shooters' minds, Remington is a once-great name with a boot on its neck in the form of margin pressure from the parent investment group.

There is no excuse for a SA pistol to have a trigger pull that long. Just bad design. Disqualifying.

The two R1s I've owned are solid guns. Very accurate and reliable.

One is the former Para R1 enhanced widebody and is much more reliable than Paras I've dealt with in the past.

FWIW

I love my RM380. I put Galloway springs in it and polished the end of the hammer strut, super smooth pull now. I got mine during the rebate last year and am amazed at how nice it is especially for the price.

The RM380 is a hammer-fired DAO

When I first purchased the RM380 it felt like the trigger hit a wall before breaking - exactly how Cokeman described it. It does get better with use.

For myself I found the worst way to shoot it was treating it as if it was a SA trigger. I think revolver guys shoot guns like the RM380 and the Kahrs pretty naturally (just my opinion), I found the most accurate way to shoot it was a fairly strong but smooth stroke from beginning to end, more of a "stroke" than a "squeeze" - not surprisingly - just like you'd fire a DA revolver. When I do that, I pull right through the point where it stacks and I hardly notice it, and as I said, the trigger gets better with dry-firing and shooting.

Sorry, I meant semi-auto when I wrote SA, not single action.

The RM380's DAO trigger stores and then releases all of the energy necessary to move the hammer to strike the firing pin with enough force to ignite the primer of a chambered round. A DAO trigger depends on leverage, with a trade-off between the distance the trigger moves and the force needed to move the trigger.

Remington chose to use a longer, lighter trigger pull for the RM380. Some shooters prefer that approach while other shooters prefer a shorter, heavier trigger pull. Both approaches reflect personal preferences and neither approach is a "bad design."

Fair enough, but I am a single action trigger guy. I have no use for long trigger pills.

The Remingtons are not on sale right now - that was last years discounts, but Black Friday is right around the corner and I am wondering if Remington is going to offer the rebates again. The problem with buying these discounted Remingtons is the risk that the company might soon go out of business and won't be around to honor warranties on the pistols.

On the other hand, anyone who ever purchased a Browning Hi-Power will probably have parts forever and almost every gunsmith knows how to work on a Browning Hi-Power.

I don’t have a problem with the long trigger pull on a pistol. I can blast one bottle after another with my Kahr P380 and it’s pretty long. I can’t do that with the RM380. I’m sure I could hit a man sized target. The RM380 was cheap, $199, so I’m not too bothered. It is cool looking though. It’s blue.

I can't remember what the sights are like on the P380, are they 3 dot sights like on the CM9 ? The fixed sights on the RM380 aren't that great, but the Rohrbaugh brothers envisioned the gun for close-up self defense, so there you have it. I've fired the Beretta Pico a few times, didn't like the trigger, the magazine was almost impossible to drop, but it did have very nice sights.

I wish they had RM380 at the last gun local gun show, still haven't run into one yet. I checked out every pocket 380 I could find. The Khar had the most visible sights ( I think it was a dot up front and a center bar in the rear) and felt good to hold, but I guess some paint can fix that problem on other guns.

I would shop the used Police surplus market they usually have night sights & extra mags. They are solid gun that are broken in & usually have some minor wear marks but are good to go.

Glock 22 gen 4 $299- $309 then add a 9 mm conversion barrel for $99. magazine are cheap $10-$15 for hi cap.
