Does anybody have an economical source for Tannerite? I see it on line at numerous places and at local stores. Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to save some money ( I've got to be able to buy gas to drive out to the range, after all!)

It’s easy to make at home. A little google foo works wonders. A few common chemicals. Will not post recipe. Can get both ingredients from Amazon and tractor supply.

What are you planning to do where the cost of the tannerite is a real factor? There are way too many "hold my beer" incidents with tannerite + XXXX, with XXXX being old cars, lawn care equipment, etc.

I'm setting up a shooting match at a buddy's ranch and funding all the targets and such. Just trying to minimize my cash outlay. Steel ain't cheap these days, nor is gas to get there. AND I have to use up valuable ammunition. But it's all for fun. I don't need a lot, I'm just trying to be a frugal shopper.

Fair enough- Just be sure to have safety measures in place to prevent launched fragments (including rocks/gravel) and fire (if dry in your area).

We have had a "traditional tannerite" boomfest on the fourth of July for the past few years. To avoid the fragment hazards I load the charge into stuffed dolls and such. They explode safely and the stuffing gives the birds something for their nests.
This year the guest of "honor" will be a Barney that I got at the goodwill...

"To avoid the fragment hazards I load the charge into stuffed dolls and such." I was just going to put it in a paper bag and wrap it tightly... biodegradable cover. I've shot the stuff numerous times and I have never noticed a fire hazard. The concussion seems to suck out all the oxygen and the force of the blast would extinguish any flames. But we are always careful, nonetheless (we want to get invited back to the ranch ;) )

Forgot where this thread was but it came in and we played with some last weekend ,it works.

The name should have been obvious.

Conelrad: I ended up getting it from Sportsmans Guide. 10 lbs for $50 (PLUS a Yeti knockoff cup!)
jmorris: That is a pretty good price. Any idea where?

The nice thing about Tannerite is it comes in the proper containers, with a mixing jar as well.

That means you don't have to scrounge for bottles or such, just grab & go.

Time is money...

Oh, I see. I apologize for the confusion. Tannerite is a registered trade mark, it you want it specifically that’s here. https://tannerite.com/

They are not the only vendor that sells ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder though. I was responding to,

The place I posted sells it for $3/pound. At Tannerite.com the cheapest I see if the 4 case deal at $6.5/pound.

I don’t know if it would save you any money but if you didn’t, you would be shooting twice as much of it.
