My SP101 ejector rod seems to have excessive play. The "ejector" motion (in&out) seems OK but the "side" travel seems to be excessive. the back&forth motion seems to be able to move the ejector rod about 1/16"-1/8". Is this normal? I would think the ejector rod would be tight a s the rest of the gun? Any help?

On the SP, GP, or Redhawk series, the ejector rod doesnt assist in the lineup of cylinder/crane. The Security Six/Speed Six does, like the Smith & Wesson revolvers.

Exactly correct. Unlike the S&W ejector rod which must be tight and wobble free, the Ruger DA design locks the gun at the front of the CYLINDER rather than at the front of the EJECTOR ROD.

That makes the Ruger ejector rod ONLY an ejector rod unlike the S&W design that requires the rod to do double duty as a cylinder locking point and an ejector rod.

The Ruger ejector rods are designed to have some play in them.

I did notice though in a somewhat abused 9x19 version I considered purchasing recently the rod had a good amount more play than on a 357mag model I have access too.
