That's because you frequent this forum & @LoonWulf & @troy fairweather are 7mm evangelists

Shame about 325WSM. It & 8mm Rem Mag still make the most sense to me as a North American all rounder.
I actually know two guys IRL who have recently purchased rifles in 7mm-08 for hogs as its flatter shooting and penetrates better than .30-30. Of course, these are the only two folks Ive ever known to actually own one too.

Hey least were not 6.5Creedborgs.......

As stupid as it may be, im still looking for both of the 8mags......like so many things tho, not willing to pay to play just yet.

I thought .300 WSM was the most popular variant?
No numbers, but based on thr guns and ammo I SEE in circulation here thats or .270wsm are the ONLY popular ones. Folks must be buying the 325s tho, because they continue to be cataloged.

7mm Mag? Wow.
Been seeing less and less of them as well, tho they are still very popular.

Maybe the Portuguese don’t have a good pulse of the US market. (AKA new Winchester)

The 7mm-08 is not making a comeback and likely never will because it is sandwiched in performance by two far more popular cartridges. But I doubt we'll see it "die" in our lifetimes either. I would actively recommend a 7mm-08 to a person who has zero intention of reloading, but is willing to drive further than Wal-mart to buy ammo.

Here is a far better metric to use: Ammunition variety.

Midwayusa's different options for...

6.5CM: 80 choices
7mm-08: 30 choices
308: 161 (plus 9 more 7.62x51mm)
30 T/C: 1 <------- Dead Cartridge
6mm Remington: 4 <------- Dead Cartridge
338 Federal: 5 <------- Give it a few years, at best

Kimber dropped the 270 and 325 WSMs a while back due to poor sales. I have two 300 WSMs, one a Kimber that's being switched to 6.5 PRC, and the other a Remington 700 that I'll be selling next year. I don't see myself adding another 300 WSM although I do like the cartridge. Too bad for the 7mm-08 Rem though. I only owned one and it was a Savage Weather Warrior that was a disaster from the get go, but I do have a couple of Criterion 1:8 twist barrels for a Kimber 84M in case I decide I want to play with it again.

10 years ago it seemed to be the consensus on forums like this that the 300 WSM was going to make the .300 Win Mag obsolete, and yet the WM is always in the top 5 for national sales. I have 220 rounds of .300 Win Mag and 200 rounds of 300 WSM up for sale on Gubroker and people are bidding on the .300 Win Mag stuff ... not the 300 WSM though yet.

Indeed. I was stirring the pot. The industry ownership has certainly shifted over the last 30 years and I think the reason is the same as why rich people invest in off-shore accounts.

Untouchable by US courts. Which says something about US “system”. I’ve believe this trend will continue.

Guess I need to go and find me a M70 EW in 7mm08. What a shame, great cartridge.

Not that it matters all that much I’m not against rebarelling if I have to.

I am still seeing some of the calibers in other models, like the 25/06 in the Model 70 Extreme Tungsten and the 7/08 in the Featherweight. I am glad we still have these options, I have wanted a 25/06 for a while but just haven't pulled the trigger on one yet.

Now you know a third - me. My model 7 in 7-08 is great for those hunts with LONG walks where weight means something as my 7mm mag weighs almost 2# more.

Hmmm, I kinda thought 7mm-08 was makin a bit of a comeback too.

Ive always thought .25-06 made more sense than .270, but the market disagreed.

Always thought that the .270 was ideal for the cartridge.

.280 needed the AI, .25 should have been in the .308 case (or 7x57/6.5x55 for that matter)

But that's just me.

When I lived and hunted out West, the 7MM was the choice over the 30-06 and the more shoulder-bruising 300s.and 338s for elk and mulies

Think that w/ the newer bullets and the shorter bolt and Bbl, .270 WSM rifles do the same work but are easier in the field.

But why hasn't that argument held for the 300 WSM vs. .300 Win Mag? One of the issues the WSMs have faced over the equivalent belted magnums is feeding and capacity. You typically lose a round with the WSMs and I've yet to encounter a WSM that feeds as smooth as a belted magnum. There's no comparison between a Kimber 8400 Mag vs. 8400 WSM. It's one of the reasons why I'm converting my 8400 WSM to an AICS mag 6.5 PRC. I have a video on YouTube showing my 8400 .375 H&H feeding empty cases from the magazine ... not an easy thing for any rifle to do.
