anybody here going to be up in Port Clinton next weekend?

I was wondering, because I have a lady friend that is interested in going up there and spectating during the pistol comps. She just joined the NRA, and found out about Camp Perry online, and wanted to go.

I'm out of town next weekend, so I was wondering if any of you THR layabouts are going to be there who would'nt mind showing her around a bit.

She's a VERY recent convert over to the gun culture, took the CCW course (mind your manners ;)), and is really interested in doing more than just plinking at the range. Any of you folks fit this bill?

Leme know, here or in PMs, and I'll put ya in contact.

Thanks y'all.

Same boat

Hi there!
I am in the same boat as your lady friend, so just wondering if you could forward me any help that you do get?

Thanks!
Donna

i'll be there last week of this month for the CMP rifle matches

Ahhh.... who wants to go and watch pistol shooters? Tell her to wait a few more weeks then come up and watch the RIFLEMEN shoot ;)

Honestly, she may have a good time just exploring on her own. The first time I went to Perry I just wandered around the post, checking out everything as I went. If she goes to the shooter registration building I'm sure that they'll be happy to give her a map.

I think my brother in Kansas City is going up there. He shoots there every year and I'm pretty sure he's going again this year.

Former marine, shoots AR-15 and M-1 matches.

Will go back

I am open to going up another weekend if I have a good time this weekend. I just don't know what to expect, so I am going to show up & have some fun (I hope!).

Perhaps you should connect dmdowling with your friend.

Check out the schedule at www.odcmp.com for the time she will be there. I have only been there for the rifle shooting, but they probably have clinics and more formal shooting school classes she could sign up for.

As mentioned above, it's a great place to just wander around. There are the daily competitions, vendor's row, the PX, various ceremonies, etc.

You may want to call and ask -- she may have to be with a registered competitor to get in.

No, you do not need to be accompanied by a registered competitor to get on-post. Simply have a valid driver's license and present it at the main gate.

Costs?

Can anyone give me an idea about admission/parking costs? I just want to be prepared with enough cash, but since this is my first visit, not sure how much to bring. Also, if I get there about 9, will there still be plenty to see? I know shooting starts at 7:30, but wasn't sure how long it normally lasts.

Thanks!!
Donna

it lasts until around 2.

Bring a tent, plenty of water. There's no parking cost, or fees at the gate. Also, unless you drive into the parking lot at 4 in the morning, you will be parked way down toward/past the moguls. You won't be anywhere close to the flag.

How much money to bring? Plan on spending a bunch. Good deals can often be had on vendor's row. Even if you're not looking to buy anything you'll probably find something you gotta have :)
