Anyone willing to help me out with data from their Speer reloading manual? It's one manual I don't own.

What does Speer say about OAL in a 9mm 115 gold dot? Do they only state a length, or call it a maximum length?

If they list Power Pistol or 3N37 as suitable powders, what is the max charge?

THANKS!

My Speer #14 says,powerpistol max-6.7 for 1212fps.3n37 has a max of 6.7 also for 1225 fps.oal is 1.125 "tested".does not say min.or max.just "tested".

Even though Speer does show a tested OAL of 1.125", that doesn't mean it will function well in your firearm. OAL in handgun cartridges that head space off the mouth, is firearm specific. This means you should take your barrel off, find the OAL that passes the plunk test, in other words doesn't touch the lands, fits the magazine, and reliably feeds.

Always work your powder charge up around the shortest OAL you will be testing at. This way you can pretty much increase the OAL with a greatly reduced concern of OAL induced pressure spikes, therefore you won't have to re-work the powder charge all over again.

GS,

I understand everything you said. I wanted Speer's length with powder charges to confirm, from the bullet manufacturer, a large discrepancy from other load books, re. length. This given the 9's propensity as a high pressure cartridge to be sensitive to too short a length and being overpressure, quicker than other cartridges.

Ogives and shapes are different, I simply wanted Speer's length for Gold Dots to safely push max charge.
