Looking for advice on a new spotting scope.i think mine is giving up the ghost. Today I could barely see hole at 100 yards with it. Almost like it was foggy or something.used to be able to see 22 holes at 300 if the light was right.. I don't think I need a high dollar one.. I can always use shoot and see targets at 300 yds..so give me suggestions on another one. Thanks johnny.

I got this combination last fall and am very pleased with the purchase. It's an excellent medium priced spotting scope that's a fraction of what the Uber-Glass scopes sell for. I tried some that were half the cost of this scope, but they weren't even close in sharpness and resolution. I needed a scope that has the capability to field-score sheep, antelope, and elk.

For range work only ms 6852's suggestion makes more sense, IMO. The Bushnell Trophy is a winner for the price and fine for the bench with targets like you'll be using.

After using several binoculars and spotting scopes for shooting, I have happily settled on $100 Visionking 25-75x70 Maksutov spotting scope - https://www.amazon.com/Visionking-2...ting-Waterproof/dp/B00GH2JWTA#customerReviews

Unlike traditional spotting scope with long body, I like the short compact body and 75x magnification that allows me to see .22 caliber holes at 100-200+ yards (I use white copy paper as target) and likely see "shoot and see" at 300 yards (Definitely recommend using sturdy tripod or using included short tripod on solid bench to steady image at higher magnifications but you will see the bullet holes).

Since it's Amazon buy with free return, if you don't like it for any reason, you can always return it.

Important info: if you are going to use that spotting scope also on handgun range (25 yards or meters) make sure that lowest magnification is no more than 15x. 20x is too much! When I found Tasco 20x-60x on a gun show (I've got a good deal) I didn't plan shooting bullseye on 25 meters, but friends asked me to join them.

Tale of two Spotting Scopes. A memory dump.
Almost 25 years ago I bought a Bushnell scope I could afford.
Soon I found it wasn't suited for the service rifle game and bought a KOWA that was.
The Bushnell became the utility scope, and a Sinclair clamping bench mount became its lifetime companion.
I still use it every summer and because it isn't handled roughly, it has lasted a long time.
No regrets other than I wish it had an angled eye piece.

Next was a Kowa 82 series with an angled eyepiece. It served well for its use in the service rifle game.
The angled eyepiece makes getting your eye around to it much easier when shooting close to the ground or bench shooting.
The eye piece is detachable and swapable for other types, camera & phone adapters and whatnot. (Bird watchers)
It's a rather large beast and lauded for its ability to see mirage and other specialties. Excellent quality.
Some internal lubricant dripped onto the objective lends one summer so back she went for repair. No charge. Perfect.
After some cold winters in the barn, her outer coating became sticky. Back she went for a new coating job. No charge. Perfect.
Also purchased a pistol box mounted spotter for the bullseye pistol box and a handheld monocular for utility work. No biggie there.
Different needs, prices & stories. +1 on using Amazon.

I just picked up one of these. I shot at 100 yards and .22 holes in the black were easy peasy to see on it's lowest power. These guys have building scopes for years. Just to be fair, I have owned in the past and used Fujinon Super Sixty which was an expensive spotter. I have also used friends Kowa spotter so I know what a good spotter is.

Well,I bought one of these cheap barski. Spelling?? Anyway if it's not good I'll send it back. I started using the shoot and see targets at 200 yards. Holes show up better..
