I have an opportunity to get a spring turkey tag for South Dakota (Gregory county) and was thinking about extending the trip and hunting for coyotes for a couple days as well. I have hunted coyotes in winter and early spring, but never this late in the spring (mid- to late April).
Is there anything different I should be aware of? Not a good time of year to be hunting coyotes? Tricks I should know? Looking for some advice from the experienced predator hunters out there.
My cousin has been out there deer hunting the past few weeks and said that the coyote numbers are really high, he has seen and heard more than he ever has.

Hides will be worth nothing but if it is just to kill a few then go for it. They are easier to kill in the spring using pup distress calls.

I know the spring hunt brings up questions of ethics with pups and such...but seeing what they will do to a fawn makes me not feel so bad. Our population has been steadily increasing over the years and we need to start making a focused effort to drop their numbers. Unfortunately spring is my opportunity this year.
