So I picked up a Springfield 1911A1 Milspec at the local gunshow yesterday. I am VERY happy with my purchase.
It's the standard Milspec with the black Parkerized finish. Fit and finish is top notch. I cannot find any flaws in the Parkerizing anywhere on the pistol. Pulling the slide back and easing it forward is buttery smooth. The sights look like they'll be excellent, if a little prone to snag. Three white dots and a wide notch in the rear should provide quick aquisition and follow up. The holes for the dots are deep, so they could be painted in with something brighter or glowing quite easily.
I have not taken her to the range, but I'm sure it will run as great as the other few Springfield 1911s I've owned and shot.
I was able to try the trigger out quite a bit (using snap caps, of course) and it is shorter than what I'm used to in a more modern, more customized 1911. There is a little play before it breaks, but it breaks clean and crisp, at what feels like about 4-5lb tops. Very smooth.
My hands are skinny enough to prevent any hammer bite, so I won't worry about that, but I wish the 'tail' of the grip safety were rounded a little on the edges, as they are a little sharp, but the good thing is, the frame where the safety pivots is not sharp. (had an older 1911 that was a little sharp there).
I put my smooth cocobolo grips on it, and will keep the black plastic grips as backup if I ever need them.
