Springfield has announced that they are releasing a compact Range Officer next month with 4" barrel, yet i have missed any threads that discusses the subject. What's the deal? I've always counted Springfield a major player in the 1911 market. I love my"Loaded"!

Are the sights all black or dotted on the fullsize? That would make a hell of a small game hunting pistol if all black.

I'm not a big Springfield follower, but I had not heard of a Champion size Range Officer. It seems like an odd idea though. My understanding of the Range Officer is it is designed as a range/competition gun, hence the name of course.

The major reason for a Champion size gun is typically as a carry gun. Usually, you don't put adjustable sights on a carry gun (of course I don't know if they new model would have adjustable sights). The question would be, what is the intended use for a Champion sized gun with adjustable sights?

What would make this .45 acp CCO size 1911 a better "small game hunting pistol" than any other 1911, regardless of sights? I've never considered the .45 an optimum choice for small game, unless you're good enough to just take head shots.

It's a pseudo-CCO with the same finish and parts as the other Range Officer guns, but fixed Novak sights, IIRC a front fiber optic.

It has not been released yet, but it is on SA's web site.

MY WANT.
