I recently acquired a Range Officer 1911 compact 9mm, and while the gun is an absolute dream to shoot...it only took 50 rounds before the front fiber optic flew out of the sight. Another 10 or so rounds later, the entire front sight slid completely out the right side of the gun.

Has anyone else experienced this? For the price of the gun, I was a little surprised. I bought a sight-pusher tool and some Loctite, but I wasn't sure if anyone else had a better idea.

As always, I appreciate the experience of THR!

I would give Springfield a call, they should make it right for you.
Otherwise Locktite/stake the front sight, and buy some new FO inserts.
The fiber optic comes in different sizes so make sure you get the right size.
Insert, cut off to length, melt the ends with a lighter and that is taken care of.
I think I paid about $10 for a back of about 6 pieces in 3 colors from Amazon. Enough to replace it about 20 times.

Front sight fell off one of my 1911s. I added 2 dimples to the bottom with a center punch and used blue loctite to tighten the gap. The dimples increase surface area and give the loctite more to work with. Hasn't moved yet, and that was quite a few rounds ago. It is crucial you use calipers and a sight pusher/punch to put the sight where you want it before it sets.

Didn't it come with extra fiber rods? All my guns that have fiber optic sights had a few extra in the case. Probably could fix it yourself.

I already have the sight pusher in the mail! I've tried do-it-yourself "gunsmithing" without the right tools...and I've always ended up sending the gun back or simply buying the tool I needed in the first place. I ordered the blue Loctite (#242), so we'll see how it goes.

Also, my RO came with plenty of fiber optics...I just need to keep them in the d@mn sight! Haha.

A good sight pusher will make all the difference. I bent a 1/8" brass punch trying to put in a 1911 rear sight. Not a cheap punch from a no name company either. Sight pusher had it on in about 2 minutes. I may have to reorganize my range bag to take it with me when I sight in something new, just in case I want to make adjustments on the fly.
