I have a Springfield XD .45 w/ 5" barrel. The mags are 10 rd, but I have found when fully loaded and seated the mag release button takes BOTH THUMBS to depress and drop the mag. I have never run into this issue on any other pistol. Does anyone know if this is normal for this pistol, or have any information on it? Thanks!

I have the 4" version with 13 round mags and with mine i can drop the mag just fine with one thumb going either direction on the mag release.

From what ive read its a very normal thing. Check out XDTalk.com for more info on it.
My XD SC .40 also takes both hands to release a full mag, But empty it drops free easily.
Its just one of the guns quirks. And it may vary from model too model and mag to mag since so many are interchangeable.

It's because of the added spring tension provided by the fully compressed mag spring.

It drops easy when it's empty, doesn't it.

Lock the slide on a loaded mag and it'll drop easy then, too.

I'd keep the mag loaded and see how much the spring relaxes over time, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Above advice is correct. Consider it a safety issue as you cannot easily drop the full mag without effort. In an emergency situation this is a great plus to me.

i have the same problem with my xd 45 but mine sticks even if there isnt a mag inserted. if you push the mag release it will stick or is hard to push still with the mag out. is there a solution to fixing this problem?

Mine did the same, checked around and found out is was typical. It will loosen up, mine did, and you won't even notice it. One day you will just look at it and go, "hmm, not as tight as it used to be".
