Recently upgraded my carry/canoe blade to the Spyderco Delica4 with VG-10 steel and am unable to resharpen the blade after some heavy yard work.

I have been using 3-stage diamond coated sharpeners (the ones with the circles on the sharpening surface), which have worked well on 440 stainless and (slowly but surely) D2 tool blades.

I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my sharpening solution for this surprisingly hard knife, and if the community has any suggestions.

Thank you.

VG-10 is supposed to not be that difficult to sharpen. I have successfully sharpened VG-10 more than once on my Wicked Edge sharpener with no difficulty, including one time where the blade was so dull you could run your finger down the length of the blade without cutting your finger. I have never used those diamond stones...haven't been sharpening with regularity long.

I thought Spyderco uses a 40 degree edge, 20 on each side. You may not be at the right angle.

I re-bought myself a sharpmaker, and actually got it to work for my native.

I agree that your angle may be off. The Spydies I have touch up pretty easily.

Thanks, you guys are right, I just wanted to make sure I'm not going crazy. Off to hone my sharpening skills once again.

My Endura 4 came from the factory at a bit over 30 degrees inclusive. Using a sharpie and a sharpmaker, it took a little time to get it down to 30.

Not sure how consistent the factory bevels are on those knives, but that may give you something to start with.
