Hi All!

So, I’ve decided my next purchase will be a Staccato XL, XC or Atlas. For the Atlas lineup, I am trending toward the Titan RDS or the Athena; the Artemis or above grades would likely be lost on me. Clearly, the Atlas line is better, but is it worth a few grand more than a Staccato for range use? I am not a competitor but a pretty serious range shooter and enjoy guns with exceptional mechanical accuracy and flat-shooting characteristics. I shoot at 25-50 yards with the occasional 100 yard practice on silhouette targets. So do I go for the $3500-4000 gun which is likely a good match for my ability and interest, or the creme de la creme 2011 (knowing full well that there is ALWAYS something better out there). Any help on this? Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't help you here, but I'm curious about the replies.

If I was spending that much, I'd go Nighthawk and get something I really wanted.

Both pistols are out of my budget, I can only dream of owning one. My answer is based on your question: if in doubt, go for the (considerably) cheaper one. That way you can tattoo "No Ragrets" in your neck and sleep well :)
Honestly, I'd go for the CZ TS2 Orange and shoot all kinds of ammo without worrying about tunning mags, etc.
Enjoy your purchase!

I think VanFunk prefer Man Jewelry guns, me too!

You know he’s going to get a Atlas and drew over it for a few weeks then the feeling wears off and your off to the next fix

Haha! Man, you guys are awesome as always. I love this forum; hand down the best on the internetwebs. Yes, the savings is pretty considerable if I go with a Staccato. The XL is $3500 and the XC is $4300. Staccato I’d say is a premium semi-custom (but still production) 2011 with a solid reputation for accuracy and function. The Atlas line is a cut above and involves more hand-fitting and generally higher quality. Atlas pistols seem to start at $5500 and go from there. The ones I am looking at range from $5500-6500 and are very hard to improve upon if one wants a super-premium 2011. I thought about a Nighthawk Firehawk or Sandhawk as I like their look and I like Nighthawk. BUT, my NHC Combat Special was a dud out of the box and, per my LGS, they have sent back many Nighthawks for functional problems lately. So, that’s dampened my enthusiasm. I can order a Staccato and have it here in a few days, the Atlas is 12-16 weeks. I am willing to wait but of course I am impulsive.

Here, a new kid in town...

Atlas has way more options than Nighthawk or Staccato offers on their double stacks. They are most often ordered a la carte, however you want it. Even the grip modules can be had however you want it with different palm swell options. Early 2011 mags sometimes required some tweaking, but Atlas/MBX - heck even my last two Staccatos didn't need any magazine tuning. The Athena is a great gun, one of their most popular models. IMO it cycles a little faster and is a little more fun to shoot than the Titan. I hate grip safeties, so it was easy.

That said, the XC is a lot of fun as well, they shoot great.

tuned MBX mags run $140 easy, and that was 4 years ago

I wouldn't give Adam 2 cents. Butttt the mall Ninjas sure do love him.

There are literally dozens and dozens of double stack 1911 makers now-a-days.. Find one that appeals to you.

what??? sounds personal

Not at all..

Here is the man behind Atlas.

(Zero clue about how the case played out or plead though.. I lost interest)

as a driver… I don’t like him now. You can’t just pull a knife of a driver. Cuz… bad things will happen. Most drivers I know carry or willing to hit a telephone pole

Not a driver and have serious issues with POS's that are willing to do so. He also suffered from Dunning-Kruger Effect when he started.

Educate me, please. Is he the owner/founder of Atlas? And thank you for bringing up the Dunning-Kruger effect. More people have that than they know… which is… uh… the point.

Staccato seems to be looking better and can be a bird in hand in short order. Cabot looks bery, bery nice though.

That’s a good suggestion and it does make sense at this price point. I’m not sure though that I could really add anything meaningful over how these guns are typically configured. I want a 5-5.4” barrel, internal or external compensator, optics ready, 17-20 round magazines, ridiculously accurate, 2-2.5lb trigger pull. Basically, I want the fastest, flattest, most accurate 2011 with the best trigger that I can find for $6k or less.

Those are reasonable "goals", but when considering a custom build, you're really specifying the parameters to reach those goals.

It's like a goal of a Supercar which will accelerate, corner, and brake at a certain level.. You could met the same goal with anything from a Bugatti Veryon to a Lucid Air Sapphire...which are almost diametrically opposed solutions

I have three Staccato's, the P, C2 and CS. All three are gems and IMO you won't go wrong with one of the models you mentioned from them. I'm not familiar with Atlas and don't know one way or another if they're worth the premium you'll pay.

If Staccato is anything like STI… it’s a good value and a premium name

heck… I might be in the Staccato market too
