I shot a buddies Staccato XL yesterday. Nice gun, but the trigger was not as light/crisp as my stock S2 Orange. I was kind of surprised by that, since I read so much about the 1911 trigger being the end all, do all trigger. The grip was a little small for me too, but I assume you can buy scales to make it meatier. It was accurate and I'm sure you get used to the trigger, but I'm glad I didn't give into my urge to buy one now. Not knocking the gun, just stating my experience.

That's interesting. My boss has a S2O that I have shot, he is currently waiting to take possession of a Staccato P2. Will make some interesting water cooler conversation if he has the same experience...

Interesting

The XL trigger is lighter than the Shadow 2 Orange. I’ve got both of them. I find the straight back pull on the Staccato crisper than the CZ also.

To each their own I guess.

Isn’t Staccatos focus these days more of duty and carry over competition?

Typically id expect a bit of a heavier trigger in that case.

That's what I was going to say, but went to the Staccato page, since I wasn't that familiar with the XL, and apparently the XL is their competition gun.

The XL and XC are competition guns, not duty. They have the light triggers.

I have a Staccato C2 and my buddy has the Staccato XL. His XL has a noticeably lighter trigger than my C2 which is fairly light at roughly 4 pounds.

The XC and XL triggers are half the weight of the duty Staccatos

Both are production guns. Therefor results may vary.

The CZ in the background has a better trigger than the STI (pre name change) in the foreground. Course its a CZC trigger that is <1lb

I am in love with my CZ S2O and TS2 Blue, both are just so damn easy to shoot well that I am even thinking about adding another - the TS2 Orange. BUT my LGS is about to become a stocking Staccato dealer so I may have to hold out and get one of the competition models (XL probably). So far, I have not found a 2011 with a trigger as good as the CZ’s. I had high hopes for the Dan Wesson DWX but I felt it didn’t offer anything over the CZ line either, IMO.

Well, good to know. In the concurrent thread about the CZ vs Beretta, I commented about Briley's builds on the Prodigy, and a comment was made about spending 'Staccato money' and still ending up with a Prodigy. I didn't address it there because the focus was on CZ vs Beretta.

Briley is known for top end work, I'm sure it is worth it for those who are willing to pay for it. I also misquoted the price, I was referring to the package with the Vortex dot, seems it's gone up since last time I looked.

I have shot an STI 2011, and was impressed overall, but like the OP here, wasn't as impressed with the trigger as one would expect for the $$. Perhaps Staccato has improved the triggers since the name change. What they messed up, IMO, is the looks, particularly on the race guns. The slides are pug ugly, which is fine on the duty guns, but they do it on the XC and XL also. And while I'm pretty sure it's unintentional, the logo on the grips is a religious symbol I'd rather not have on my gun. Yes, they are made in TX, but the design of the star is the same as a Wiccan symbol. The grips are integral to the magwell, and as far as I know there are no other alternatives available. John Wick coolness aside, I like the Prodigy's lines better, and they certainly are worth the base price.

Will I pay $1600+ to Briley to doll up my Prodigy when I get one? No. I'll do the work myself, and over time, and it won't be a Vortex red dot I top it with. They aren't bad, I just have a different RDS in mind.

The only reason I don't just get a CZ S2 Blue and be done with it is I want a double stack 9mm 1911, just old and stubborn, I guess.

The TS2 Orange 9mm is an outstanding shooter. That being said, I’m not enamored with the TS2 trigger. Super light, but not overly crisp and the reset leaving something to be desired.

If you haven’t found a 2011 with a better trigger, you’re looking at the wrong 2011’s. The DWX is no 2011. Something like a Phoenix Trinity or Atlas will do…

Phoenix is going out of business, correct? That would turn me off I think. I have been thinking about an Atlas, though. The triggers on my CZs have minimal creep so I think I just lucked out. Both are less than a pound and a half and I just adore them. I would love to find a honest-to-goodness reliable and accurate 2011 with a 2lb trigger for under $5k.

I get emails weekly from PT. They have a long back log of orders.

As for the price, Atlas is over $5000, but PT builds some models under that (not the Honcho though).

My favorite is LimCat, but not cheap.

Ah, Phoenix Trinity seems to be doing well. There was some other Phoenix I googled and they’re getting out of the business. Those sure look nice, Bac. I also spied a few Limcats while I was perusing 2011s online. The Atlas line still looks the best to me though. I may have to investigate further.

There's always the BDS 9..........
I’ve got the Nighthawk TRS Comp, which is basically the same gun with an added compensator and less machining. The BDS9 is from the Boardroom series.

Frankly, as great as Nighthawk is (and they are great), I recommend a high end 2011 from a 2011 company, not a 1911 company. I say that owning five Nighthawks, including one 2011 in the TRS.

There are companies that make different grip modules for the Staccatos.
