I would like suggestions for an improved trigger.

I use my AR for fun and varmint hunting for fox and coyote.

My trigger is not as bad as some factory AR's I have tried but it is very heavy.

I have to really work at keeping things consistent out past 100 yards.

What is the general consensus for trigger pull weight?

I figure I should stay around 4 to 5lb for all around use – hunting/range fun and defense.

I prefer not to break the bank with the upgrade either.

I am reasonably handy with small basic gun smithing type stuff – example fitting an ambi safety to a 1911 or drill/tap holes for mounting weaver base etc.

So I could/would do some minor fitting but not anything major.

What trigger kits would you recommend?

I was looking hard at the CMMG Trigger AR-15 Two Stage 4-1/2 lb Matte for around $140. It has adjustments for over travel and take up.

Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.

Just how heavy is the stock trigger? My CMMG (normal trigger, not 2-stage) is about 6 pounds. About what I'd expect from a mil-spec trigger.

Anyway, here's a good writeup on a few triggers.

Personally, I'd opt for one that is not in a crazy housing. Those require some kind of fancy schmancy pins, and you end up with crap sticking out of the side of your gun, kinda like this. http://media.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=5713

I have Timney a trigger in my AR, it is great. I have heard good things about the CMMG trigger. The RRA two stage is pretty good too, and it is about $120.
