Hey guys, I am thrilled to have found a 1927 Pre Woodsman in my price range. It is not set up for high velocity 22 ammo, so I need to find some standard velocity stuff. Is the Federal AutoMatch 22 target stuff high or standard at 1200 fps? Any recommendations for good ammo in my guns? High or standard, I don't think it'll make much difference to a squirrel but I don't want to wreck my "new" gun.

Try and find some CCI SV or Wolf MT. If you can't find either our local Wal Mart does have Remington SV Target at about $3.99 a box and yours more than likely carries them also.

I come across CCI standard velocity fairly frequently at actual gun shops, it isn't a common thing to see at a national retail chain.

Good stuff, but I still default to the cheap Federal 550 packs for casual shooting.

You want the stuff rated at 1050- 1080 FPS range in your older Colt Woodsman. AutoMatch would not be a good choice.

From what I can tell, Auto Match seems to be pretty hot. I shot one box of it where every case BULGED quite a bit out of a Phoenix HP22A. I've never heard of a .22 not having enough chamber support, but this combo looked pretty close to bursting. It sure felt hotter than Winchester Super-X high velocity.
