Hello all,

I recently purchased a Star BM. My question is, and I realize that I may be over complicating issues, has anyone found an aftermarket rear sight (the front is part of the slide, so without major gunsmithing, not going to change as best as I can tell) that will slide into the rear dovetail and work with this pistol? Again, I realize some (many? most?) may say that it's not needed on this gun, and it by no means will diminish my like for the gun if there aren't any, but I just like the idea of adjustibility, if it might be available.

Thanks for any ideas!

I saw one star model B with adjustable sights made for a revolver. It's on Hi power and handguns website. As far as sights go you might have to have a new dovetail cut, if you go that route I'd have the front sight dovetailed too. If you do get dovetails cut you'll have to post pics so we can see it.

Agree, not much chance of aftermarket sights. I am pretty sure someone reputable made tritium sights for many of the modern models (not so sure the classics), but won't now so any you find by some miracle would be highly expired and presumably not worth it or it would take a lot of arguing to persuade the seller they are now worth only $20.

I have done custom sights on some Stars that had trouble/missing ones, by getting generic customs and a dovetail cutter to get them to match up.

Only real upgrade I have done is tritium, but home grown: Get the vials, drill out the front, glue it in. Easier than fitting new sights, and cheaper, too.

Years ago I looked into getting higher visibility sighs for my Star Model B but without any success. To go the custom route with a new dovetail cut and sights fitted would have far exceeded what the gun originally cost me.

Call EGW. They may have some sight “blanks” that they can fit to your existing dovetail by cutting the sight dovetail to fit the slide rather than the other way around. Or even a sight with an existing dovetail that is larger than what you need could be cut down. I was told last week they do this for mounting plates for red dots. Maybe also for rear notch sights as well.

The price at EGW for fitting a red dot mounting plate dovetail is $125. I can’t imagine it would be much different for doing the same to a notch sight.
