It is clearly a request, not a demand.
I saw nothing that made me think there was any implied threat if the request was not complied with.
I probably would not have complied. Just too easy to get caught up in something like this. When the cops get desperate to find the perp in a situation like this, they often grasp at straws. Look what happened in the Jon Benet Ramsey case. The investigators never had a shred of evidence that a family member was involved. This is a well to do family that can afford the very best legal talent money can buy. If they can harass that kind of family for many years when they have absolutely no evidence against them, they can lock you up and throw away the key because you don't have the money to protect yourself.
