This is a life size turkey that was used on the woods walk at Friendship for years. The clapper is 1/2 steel as is the body of the turkey.
The turkey is bent into a shallow C and the clapper actually has a hole beaten all the way through it. Granted, it took years and thousands of rounds, but this was done with low velocity lead balls. It is not AR-500

I'd say they got their money's worth!

Bit of a thread necro but I didn't think this deserved it's own thread.
3/8" thick traffic rated 17" steel manhole cover shot offhand at 50 yds. with 1 oz. 1200 fps 12 ga. foster slugs. Zero damage to target...

Made and used before the internet told me I need 1/2" thick ar500 plate for slugs :/

Velocity and bullet construction are what can really tear steel up. I had a large set of mild steel plate targets that got dented by handgun rounds like.44 Mag and slower rifles like .45/70 lead and jacketed sp bullets... but .223 rounds went right through them.

.223 also ruined my one 3/8” AR plate that had a hook welded onto the back side. I guess the heat altered the steels hardness, so in the areas directly under the welds the bullets penetrated. The outer edges just had dings from the same bullets.

My 10-year old pair of 1/2” AR 500 3/4 scale IDPA torso targets have hundreds of bullet strikes on them from all sorts of rifles. Absolutely zero warping, bullet holes or large ricochet-causing craters on the surface to date.

For the OP, spend a bit more up front for AR 500 or 550 targets, you won’t have to keep going through the time or expense to replace them like mild steel plate.

Stay safe.

One that everyone has liked is a high pressure cylinder "gong", I made by cutting the bottom off and hanging it. Because it is convex, downrange needs to be safe by more than 180.
