As always, I'm randomly shopping for a new hunting rifle.

Euro guns always have my heart, and constantly scrolling the Steyr website indicates there might be a Prohunter 3 or III coming out.

Eurooptic has them on their website but listed as out of stock (I'm guessing they added the SKU but nothing in store yet or ever).

Try as I might, I can't find anything online other than those two sources.

Anyone have leads?

The PH1 was different but cool.
Dunno what Steyr was thinking with the PH2.
The PH3 looks better.

Looks like half the price of a CLII SX
I like everything about it except styer’s predictably boring choice of calibers. If I am going to buy another .308 from steyr it’ll be another scout. With the integral bipod and on rifle spare magazine storage of the scout, there’s nothing a pro hunter offers that makes me need one. If Steyr would offer that rifle in say 7PRC and .375 Ruger you wouldn’t be able to stop me from owning two of them.

I love the action, the safety, the trigger, the accuracy, the rock solid function and reliability of the Steyr SBS platform and I own three Scout rifles, two in .308 and one in 6.5 CM. I’d dearly love an excuse to own another.

I've been eyeing up the 308 scout as a light hunter for a about a year now. The cost of entry makes me nervous as resale will be tricky is I don't like it. People just don't like to buy high end stuff used in my neck of the woods

I had an earlier version of the Pro Hunter briefly. Mine was the 20" barreled version in 308. I REALLY wanted to like that rifle. It was highly functional and accurate. I liked the safety, the magazines and the fact that it was accurate too. But there were a couple of quirks I couldn't get past, and I sold it.

Mine had the butterknife bolt handle and the shape meant that I had to use high scope mounts to clear the bolt handle. And for a 20" carbine that I intended to use for brush and rugged terrain it was just heavier than it needed to be. I could have replaced the bolt handle but that meant added expense and there wasn't much I could do about the weight.

I don't think they use that bolt handle on newer versions and if the weight is OK for you they are nice rifles.

The Scout intrigues me, but the features aren't worth the cost to me. My Tikka T3x 308 is more accurate than I can shoot it. I had the barrel chopped to 20" and use the factory 5 round magazines. Mine is lighter than the Scout with a 1" longer barrel. And I have about 1/3 what a Scout would cost in it.

Good morning all. I have been hunting with a Steyr Pro Hunter .300 Win Mag for the last 22 years. Its the most accurate rifle I have ever owned - a real tac driver. I just ordered a Steyr Pro Hunter III yesterday from my local gun shop - same caliber. I'm thinking of passing my old go to down to my son. The older Steyr has been fitted with a Leupold Vari XIII illuminator ever since I have owned it and has never required any kind of adjustment. Both the new and old rifles are now being fitted with Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 Illuminators. I'm really looking forward to getting these two rifles back next week.

They're already on Gen 3 and they haven't heard of the Creedmoor's and PRCs of the world. Euros tend to stick to the old calibers - nothing wrong with it - but jumping on the high BC bandwagon could increase their sales, just saying.
Sauer is the exception.
