I've got a Savage .308 that shoots very well. At least it did until the stock got warped somehow. Six months ago it shot fine, cleaned it up and put it away. Took it out of the cabinet to dust it off (there are dessicants in the cabinet, too) and the stock is visibly warped to the left, putting some pressure on the barrel. Shoots very left at 100 yds with much less accuracy than I'm used to. The barreled and scoped action is back in the cabinet and the stock is waiting for trash day.
So, now that I'm going to buy a new stock, I may as well go synthetic (used to hate 'em, now I like 'em due to a few other rifles). It's a general use/deer rifle, so no super stocks are needed. I've been looking at either the Bell & Carlson Medalist (aluminum bedding block) or their lower end, I forget the model name, pillar bedded stock.
Are there any other makers out there with a general use (non adjustable, non BR foreend, etc.) stock that's decent quality for around $200? I looked at Choate, nothing tripped my trigger on the website and McMillan seemed to be mostly BR and tactical stuff and more than I want to pay for a stock on a light use Savage.
Thanks for any suggestions.
