My brother has a 20 ga stoger o/u with some problems. You fire round #1 and prepare to fire round #2 .... pull... no bang... no click... the sere didn't even engage. Guessing the unit is recoil operated because you can smack the butt of the gun on the deck and the gun will fire round #2. Gunsmiths please respond. Please no "send it to the factory" responses, I am more than capable of repairing said issue, just need some guidence. Thanks gents... have a good one.

Odd that the inertia trigger doesn't re-set when you shoot it, but works just fine when you bump the butt on the ground.

Perhaps the shells you are shooting just don't kick enough to re-set it.
Have you tried different ammo?

BTW: I'm sure you know that no inertia trigger will re-set when just dry-firing the gun.

I have a Stoeger that sounds like yours. first take off the stock and clean with pipe cleaners all that crappy lube Stoeger uses. My Stoeger would only change tubes when using heavier loads. Open her up and give it a really thorough cleaning. The piece you're looking for is usually at the back of the dual trigger assembly. Usually you can follow the safety/selector to the inertia lug.

I just ran into this issue with my STF3000. Even heavy loads aren't enough to switch barrels any more. It's kind of strange because it just suddenly started happening about 5 shells into a clays round. I can reset it by the mentioned method of hitting the stock on the ground, but it takes a decent bit of force -- more than just a gravity drop from a foot or two.

Anyway I wanted to separate the stock from the receiver to try to get at the mechanics that are apparently a little jammed up, but I can't seem to get the pin out so I can get in there. Is it just that tight? Is there any tool or process to help get it out?

And while I'm asking for help, should the hammers be cocked or not when I go this far? Has anyone actually done this (cleaning the necessary components) that could give me a little more direction if and when I do actually get in there?

Thanks, guys.

I have seen others with the same problems. I assume that a good cleaning and polishing of the internal fire controls should fix the problem.

Thanks. I'm actually fumbling over the much more simple problem of getting the pin out of the receiver, though. Seems like I never had much trouble with it on my G22, but here I can't seem to get it out. Does someone have a trick for lining up a strike on the pin, or is there a tool that would make my life easier? I'd rather not beat up my gun with a bunch of misses on the rounded pin ends. =(
