How is your revolver positioned in storage? Do you put it side ways? Vertical? Hanging? Upside down?

I wonder if one leave the revolver sideways over long period of time, will the weight of the revolver put wear and tear on the cylinder and crane? There's some side-to-side play on the front of my 686 cylinder.

I sincerely doubt that laying a revolver on its side could cause any sort of undue stress to any part of it. This is a tool that is designed to handle thousands of pounds of combustion pressure, and all the frame torque and stress that goes with that.

For what its worth I lay mine in a drawer, thumb release down.

Peg Board with vinyl coated pegs between grip and trigger and under the barrel. My peg board is above the bench, so no chance of somebody brushing up against it and knocking something loose.

It's steel and it's not moving around. Nothing at all will happen to it regardless of what position it is laying while in storage.

I would suggest not laying heavy objects on it though. Stuff like cars and anvils or that beloved set of Encyclopedia Britanica unabridged in the crate could cause some problems. :D

In any event you're going to need to look further for why your 686 is developing some play.
