I read an article In "Recoil" about modifications and accessories to the Shield. One of which was adding the streamlight which adds no length or height to the gun. The Shield is my carry piece and I was wondering if anyone has added this light to their Shield. Would this addition to the gun make it more useful in the dark or make you a better target for the BG? The light sells for @ $180.

Yes it would aid in that. You will probably hear people deride weapon mounted lights (wml). Most of those criticisms simply show their lack of understanding in proper use.

The only down sides to adding the TLR are: 1 you have to pay for it. That said you should be able to find it for under $100. It’s about $92 on amazon right now. 2 it Requires a holster specific to it.

The TLR is not a particularly bright light but it is much brighter than no wml. I also would still carry a handheld light.

If I recall correctly, the criticism of weapon mounted lights is that "you have to flag your target to identify them." This is simply not true. I have a M2 UTL for my H&K USP .45 that will light up the entire room no matter which direction the muzzle is facing. It would be easy to identify someone at the low ready.

Yeah, most of the arguments against weapon-mounted lights are ridiculous. Are you worried that the light will give you away? Well, I've never once heard of a light that didn't have an "off" switch.

Do you prefer a handheld light? Well, nobody says you can't use both. I do.

If somehow I don't manage to grab a handheld light, it's nice to still have the option of my weapon-mounted light. Or if my support hand is occupied for whatever reason, I still have the means to ID my target. After all, I want to positively ID anyone who's in my home, even if they broke in. Just because someone broke into a house doesn't mean they're automatically a threat, like a drunk teenager sneaking back into the wrong house.
