That about says it all. I'm looking at a Springfield in really good shape. The parkerizing is greenish and in fantastic shape and the wood is blemish free except for a cartouche or two. The bbl. is bright and the rifling sharp. The stamp just aft of the front sight indicates the barrel was replaced in 1943. This is just about the cleanest Springfield I've seen in a long time. S/N is in the 3 million range (I think). Shop wants $550. Fair? Thank you.

I think $550.00 is a good price, I'd get it.

I have one just like that, and it's surprisingly accurate.

Are you sure it's a Springfield 1903A3?

I'm asking 'cause there's no such animal. Only Remington and Smith-Corona Made 1903A3's.

Are you actually looking at a Springfield 1903 that has had a barrel replacement?

If you can check back here and list all of the markings you can see, we can really let you know what you have there. Generally though, any 1903(or A1 or A3) in good, as-issued or as-refurb'ed USGI condition will bring $550 - so you may as well buy it!:)

Let us know more details and we'll do our best to help you.

ETA: If the SN is in the 3 million range, it's got to be a Remington 1903A3. The '43 dated barrel is likely original, then. I'd say "buy it".

vanfunk- don't feel too bad. My post was misleading because I referenced the Springfield name more than once. I know it is sloppy thinking but in my brain, all 03s are Springfields and sometimes I slip up when referring to a Smith-Corona or a Remington.

Hey, thanks for the input, all. This is a move I am going to possibly regret, but I am passing up my chance at a really clean 1903A3. I have the money, the rifle is great, but it is just not something I need right now. Nor can I see a need down the line. There are other, equally cool projects that need the funds right now. Thanks for the help and the advice, though.

lamkris beat me to it. CMP is out of 1903 rifles. Considering that, this sounds like a good buy especially if it is in real good condition.
