Striker Fire .45 ACP: Glock 30, S&W M&P .45 or XDM .45?

I have a Glock 23 and 27 that I carry, during the warm seasons in Florida. I am looking for a 45 ACP pistol and I was wanting to get your opinions about the 3 guns I listed: Glock 30, S&W M&P and the XDM 45.

What are the Pros and Cons of each and what do you recommend? I would like to get one in about 2 weeks time. I currently have a Para Ordnance P14 but it is too thick and too heavy to conceal comfortably.

I will likely get another Hybrid Holster, Like a Supertuck or Shielded Holster for IWB.

Which is more reliable, accurate and free of major issues?

I don't own the others but here is my opinion of the XDm-45:

I've got to tell ya I was always of the mind set that I would never own a tupperware gun, but was I wrong! The first thing I noticed shooting it was that is was surprisingly soft shooting, however the grip was small. I have odd bear-paw hands and I had to swap out the backstrap to the largest size at the range.

After the swap, the gun felt like my Colt Combat elite with the arched housing only thicker. I brought an assortment of Hollow Point ammo just in case it didn't like something. I WASTED MY MONEY! It shot Speer GD, Hornady XTP+P, and Corbon JHP+P just like it was FMJ ammo. And as for accuracy, well look at this target from 14 yards:

I had it loaded to 13+1 and I can only see 11, maybe 12 holes. Which means that 2 to 3 rounds went through the same holes. I shot a total of 310 rounds of which 60 were hollow points and the rest were Magtech FMJ and Winchester FMJ (the light ones that look like JSWCs). After all that I was amazed at how soft shooting it was, It makes my Defender seem like a torture device.

I could not be happier with this gun. My only complaint is that my Colt is going to get lonely!

I shot an XD 45 and I was very accurate with it. They are selling for $599 where I live. I was surprised that it came in 4.5" barrels. Any problems with the loaded chamber indicator sticking? One thing that turns me off is the grip safety.

I saw the M&P 45s for about $600 and the Blue box Glock 30s for $500.

All three are good shooters, all three are proven reliable, and all three have most of their kinks worked out already. When looking at a "summer" pistol remember to consider that you want something smooth, not bulky, and easy to conceal while retaining it's comfort factor while shooting.

M&P would be my first choice. I'm not a fan of the XD line but I DID shoot an XD 45 and it handled the .45 round quite well in my opinion. As for Glocks, I'm against the grain in that I'm not a fan of the Glock line at all. I just think there's better, more ergonomic choices out there *braces himself for the stoning* haha. Either way...go shoot all three and see which suits YOU best.

Any problems with the loaded chamber indicator sticking?

I have not had any problems with mine and I ran it filthy the first day.

One thing that turns me off is the grip safety.

Once you start shooting it, you don't even notice that its there. I actually tried to hold my hand loosely to cause a malfunction (just to see if it could happen) and I failed to make it jam. You would need to have the web of your hand completely off the grip safety to make it malfunction.

XD45c with a 4" barrel would be perfect. The XDm45 is a large CCW piece. The weather in Florida is similar to what I deal with in da' Big Easy, and CCw'ing a big gun in this heat can be a bugger.

I carry a XD9sc or a XD40sc or a XD45c on a daily basis. I own four XD's now and all have been 100%. Not a maflunction in any way from any of the four. All shoot very well. I like the commonality of my carry guns, it keeps muscle memory working for me. Since you already carry the baby G's, I would recommend getting the G30 for the same reason, even though I like the XD better than the Glock.

All three are very solid .45 tupperware. I love my Glock30, but I don't use it as an EDC, it is too thick imo. That said, I goes in a Gunny pack when I hike or am out in the wilderness and it is my go to sidearm if SHTF.
From the G30 I get total reliability and great accuracy.

Can't speak to the XD, but as the owner of a G30 and a M&P, in my hands the Glock wins every time. It shoots softer, has a better trigger, and is more accurate with everything I have put through the two, factory and handloads.

Just got back from a late honeymoon in Florida with my wife. Had a nice suite on the oceanfront in Miami and everything was within walking distance so we definitely spent a lot of time outdoors. Never even rented the car we had planned. It was great with the exception of the temp and salt water air's effect on my PF-9. I had major cleaning to do when I got back to Texas. And I agree, in southern heat comfort is EVERYTHING.

I have a Glock 30SF and have not owned/fired the other guns listed. I love my Glock 30SF. Very comfortable to hold. Magazine capacity is 10 rounds, but this can be increased to 13 rounds if you use the Glock 21 mags or even more if you use the high capacity magazines. The recoil is no more than a 9mm. I can easily put rounds on top of rounds at 25 yards. I have not had any malfunctions with both factory and reloaded ammo. The Tennifer finish is super tough. Cleaning is a breeze. The simplicity and few parts used in Glocks is on par with the simplicity and few parts used in the AK. There are plenty of Glock aftermarket accessories. The fact that all the safeties are passive is a huge pluse because when you need to eliminate a target you do not have to fumble with manual safeties. All around, the Glock 30SF is an excellent weapon and I cannot ask for anything else. Affordable, accurate, reliable, customizable, and a joy to shoot.

Don't know about the Glock but I own both M&P and XDm in .40 and I live in S.Fl. Can't imagine carry either of them comfortably, both are big and heavy with big grips. I think the M&P is slimmer but I'm not positive. Both are really great guns and both triggers can be made to be fantastic! Neither are bad out of the box. Just depends on what you like and shoot well. I'd never shoot a glock but not because they are bad weapons, they are not. Its just I've spent all my life with 1911s and other handguns that have the same grip angle. I'd shoot above the target every time with a glock!

I read that the XDM 45, 4.5, has a shorter trigger pull than the XD. Is it as short as a Glock's trigger pull? The M&P's trigger pull is the longest of the bunch.

You should at least hold all 3 of them if you can't test fire them. The XD has a significantly smaller/more comfortable grip than the other 2, and holds just as many rounds.

I am leaning hard towards the Glock 30 since it is going have concealability. The XDM 45 would be for home defense.

I would say that since you are already a Glock shooter, just stick with the Glock. It is the gun you know. Trigger will be the same (and trigger control is paramount in a dynamic shooting environment), assembly and disassembly are all the same etc. Makes since to me to just stick with Glock.

m&P is thinner, I like mine but I'm not you. I would agree that you're better off shooting what you know rather than everyone telling you that you know nothing and brand x is best.

All 3 are as reliable as are made, easily concealable and backed by their makers (or importer).

I'm not a Glock fan but do certainly understand people's loyalty to a product that works period.

In your situation, I'd go with a Glock since you already use Glocks. I value sameness.

I carry XDs personally, so if I bought a .45, it would be an XD. Not the XD(m), though; the regular XD45 compact in either configuration (4" or 5").

If youre a Glocker, probably stick with it. But I think the XDM is the better gun. I bought one last week and cannot be happier. My friends have glocks, I don't like them. I was able to shoot a 1.75" group at 25 yds. off a bench rest, and I am far from a pro. You don't even notice the grip safety or the trigger safety. I tested both, and you completely have to have your hand off the grip safety and try to pull the trigger from the side to get them to not engage. In my eyes, any safety mechanism that does not affect performance is a good thing. The felt recoil is great. People think I'm nuts when I tell them it feels like shooting my 9mm, but I swear it does. I'm sure you're going to see an explosion of accessories for the XDM series, especially after the .45 came out. One of my buddies had a problem with his M&P feed ramp being crooked or something, I don't know what the deal was, so you can take that for what it's worth, and I don't like the way a Glock feels or shoots or the Glock sights, but that's personal preference. All 3 are a good choice, but I'd recommend the XDM.

If you're already carrying Glocks, why change to anything else?
Their all great firearms, but there is a lot to say about consistency in a stress situation. The Glock 30 is known for it accuracy and handles recoil very well and though less than a 1/4" thicker than a G19,23,32, I find it NO harder to conceal or carry.
I carry either a G23, G32, G29 or G30 at all times and my G30 is the softest shooting of the four and every bit as easy to "double or triple tap" as the others, easier than my G23.
I believe you will find the G30 softer shooting than your G27 (my wife does and she has smaller hands)

I carry a g26 or my g30 every day as primary. The difference in size and weight between the g26 and g30 is noticeable. I used to have a g19 as well (same size as the g23) and the difference was not noticeable.

I have fired the full size xd45 and it was ok but I much preferred the glock trigger and believe it or not the glock was softer on recoil to me as well. Is the xd a bad gun? Heck no! I liked it a lot, I just like the glock a little bit more, especially for carry. The slide melt on the glock is superior to me as well.

The m&p I cannot help with as I have never fired one, only held it and dry-fired. I did not like the trigger, the take-down method and the slide has some sharp lines on it that protude. It might shoot well but I prefer the stainless of the xd and the tennifer of the glock as a finish.

My take is get a g30sf. If I had it all to do over again, I would do sf and get a g30 with a rail. I got a phenomenal deal on mine used and it is old school but still a great gun. So I will get myself another g19 for hd.

The g30 is the perfect one gun to own. Carry it all day, come home, slide on a glock light and slap in a g21 mag and you have a perfect hd handgun too. Hard to beat.

For CCW? I'd chose the M&P. Glocks are most reliable in 9mm.

As for the XD, for some incredibly stupid reason it was designed so that YOU CANNOT RACK THE SLIDE unless you press the grip safety. Not a big deal if it were a target pistol, but for a combat pistol this absurd grip safety function is one more obstacle to negotiate in the event you are injured and have to operate the slide one-handed in a weakened state.

mp action pkg upgrade to both mp45 and mp9c

I sent my sw MP45 and MP9c to SW gunsmith and had the mp action pkg upgrade. Performance Sear, polished ramp, tuned action, reduce trigger pull from 7 to 3.5-4lbs and reduced trigger reset. Heading for the range tomorrow to see if it was money well spent or threw it out the window. Depending on performance may have mp9 match barrel put in. Will let you know how it goes.
