Striker Fire .45 ACP: Glock 30, S&W M&P .45 or XDM .45?

I am a fan of Glock and M&P pistols, but for carry compact 45, I recommend you also check out Taurus PT145 (Gen3 SA/DA model not older DAO trigger models).

<flame suit on>

It is a very under rated 10 round double stack compact 45 with SA/DA trigger and good ergonomics (grip angle same as 1911).

Slide length is shorter than G26/G27 and grip length is similar to G19/G23.

It uses the same holster as XD pistol with similar slide width.

It is not as accurate as compact Glocks but is more than accurate for CCW purposes.

I'm on a search for a .45ACP carry gun as well. I've looked at the same models plus the PT-145. While I'm sure the Glock is a fine pistol, I just cannot bring myself to buy one after shooting several - I wanted to like them, but they just do not feel right in my hand. No dis to the gun, it just doesn't fit me. My brother has an XDm and I've shot that as well - don't particularly like the fit of that one either. I have an M&P9FS and have handled the M&P45c compact - these fit like a glove, and I'm leaning toward the 45c. But I've read a lot of good about the PT-145, and I have a PT-709 that is my daily carry, so I'm going to take a serious look at this one, too.

In the end, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three - or four. It just depends on what 'fits' the best for you.

Question for those of you who like Glock SF (short frame) 30's.

I hear the difference between the regular and SF model is about 2 or 3 mm...what does this do for you? Does it allow people with smaller hands to get their trigger finger in a better position?

I too am looking at the G30. I've shot the regular one a few times but havent ever seen a SF model. I'd like to hold each to see if I can feel the difference. Though I have XL hands so I suspect the regular G30 may fit me better.

Average-sized hands here. The G30 and G21 both fit okay. Holding both in my hand, I couldn't really feel the difference with the SFs. Maybe actually shooting them might tell me more...

I vote for the XDM 45, personally. I like the trigger, the grip feels great to me, and the XD/M line has a proven track record. The XDs, being true single action guns, can have the trigger worked to have a very short and crisp pull with less overtravel and quicker reset.

I have an XDM9, and the only issue I have had is the loaded chamber indicator sticking in the "up" position. I have over 4,000 rounds through it, and I don't use the LC indicator, so this is not an issue to me. I am going to get the gun ultrasonically cleaned and see if that fixes the issue.

I might also have the LCI removed, since I don't use it and it gets in the way for cleaning.

I owned a Glock 30 and wasn't particularly impressed with it. The M&P line has a lower capacity than the rest, and while it looks like it ought to feel best in the hand, it felt awkard in mine.
