i'm lefthanded and carry a 1911. i have a left-handed milt sparks and a right-handed wilson combat leather. both are IWB.

i've come to realize that carrying on my right side is more comfortable. as a left-hander, i favor my left hand, but am pretty comfortable with my right, so it's not such a big deal.

any other left-handers prefer to carry right handed? if so, do you draw and start firing with your right hand? do you transition to your left hand before firing?

whichever way you carry, do you keep your mag pouch on your right or left side? i'm still mostly carrying on my left side, and just thinking about switching back to the right. but interestingly, whether carrying right or left, i keep my mag pouch on the left.

when i'm at the range, just blasting and not thinking about it, i find myself firing with my left then switching to the right to do a mag change, and resuming fire with the right hand.

i guess left-handers are forever doomed to be operating in a suboptimal condition, but any advice on making this a bit more normal?

I shoot lefty 99% of the time.

Some of my holsters are righty holsters- I find the for IWB, some OWB, wearing them backwards on the left side, near my back, allows the gun to be closer, and easier to hide. Also, if I have to (God forbid) reach for my gun, my left arm is closer to my body, which, I feel, give me an advantage. I find that it is also easier to drive with a gun this way.

Lately, though, the 642 is in my pocket, so it's not an issue!!!

How much work would it take before you would be confident shooting with your off hand? The 1911 is easier to use right handed, though it can be used in the left. I guess it depends on whether it would be easier for you to carry on your left side or shoot right handed.

i'm confident with both hands. it's not really a probem at all for me until i have to operate something besides the trigger. (i.e. reload or clear a jam)

Am left handed 100%.....

Always draw from strong side. Place a very high value on proper presentation, draw stroke and speed. While you did not mention self-defense it is not good to let yourself slip into bad or convenient habits that will only hinder one {at a minimum!} on the Street.
Mag pouches are always on the right. Must be there to do a smooth, fluid & fast speed-load, clearance drill, etc.

I'm a lefty, but I carry and do about 2/3 of my shooting right-handed. Besides most guns being set up for righties, it allows me to keep my left hand free for other things. I must say, though, that if I just reach for a gun without thinking, I'll go with my left, and it feels a tad more "natural" with the left hand.

I like the crossdraw better than strong side....if you are left handed and like the right side better, have HBE make you a crossdraw holster for the right side with the 15 degree cant.............I have 2 made up for me, and being right handed they are set up for the crossdraw on my left side...

I like to keep my load balanced, so I normally carry magazines opposite the pistol. It really does not matter what you carry where, so long as you can get to everything quickly, without fumbling or searching. Practice as much as you can.
