Now...I think I'll top the dumb-question scale here, but just to entertain my safety-nerve, here goes...

I have a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull/45 Colt. I'm reading the SPEER reloading manual section on Ruger and Contender Only section. They state:

"...these loads are intended for use only in Ruger Blackhawk and Vaquero revolvers...".

Does that mean the Super Redhawk is not sturdy enough for these loads? I don't get it... I called Ruger and they were less than helpful, repeating "if it's per the spec...". OK, OK, please have the lawyer leave the room so you can answer me...please?? (Sorry -- no slight to Ruger, but the person was less than helpful -- probably just the person, or maybe the dang lawyers that made it impossible for them to answer such a question.)

I would think these loads would be a non-issue in the Super Redhawk. Am I missing something here, or is the manual not up to date with latest models?

All of the "Ruger and Contender" listed loads are very safe in the SRH.
This applies to the Redhawk as well.
Any revolver that is chambered for the .454 Casull, can safely handle any sane .45 Colt load.

That's like asking if a .357 revolver can handle hot .38 spl loads...

Or if a .44 Mag revolver can handle hot .44 spl rounds.

So I would think you're ok... just stick with published data from reputable sources. :)

If you're still uneasy, call Speer. And it NEVER hurts to be extremely cautious.

Excellent. Thank you. That's exactly what I thought. Being a beginner, I just wanted to ask first before assuming anything.

I might've been too hard on Ruger above, but I'd like to leave the message intact if I can. If it helps another newbie, great. It sounded like Ruger didn't want to get involved. I can understand that, I guess.

Thanks again, folks.
