Does anybody have a good source for Superformance data? I finally broke down and ordered some from Powder Valley. I'll have to get the Newest edition of Hornady manual, no biggie. I was just wondering if anyone had a good online source for it.

Yup I found some there. I was kind of hoping for a few more calibers.

For a powder that will work in 243 and 30-06 I would expect so see data for stuff in between like 308 or 270.

Am I missing something about this powder?

Yes you are missing something, load data is very sparse for this powder.

I had planned on picking some of this powder up but decided to pass as there is just a lack of data.

I wonder if the testing is not complete? Maybe a call to Hodgdon would provide more insight or some yet unpublished data.

Not a bad idea. I might just tuck it away until more data comes available. Definitely not a loss in my book.

same problem

The only caliber I have that I could find data on was 300WSM. I know there must be more out there.

Superformance has a burn rate Slower than the 4831's. It is way to slow for the 308, so you will never find tested data for the 308.

270, maybe, Hodgdon might have a reason it is not published, not tested yet or didn't perform.

I count at least 9 different factory loads offered by Hornady in 308 and Superformance powder. Here is just one.

I have a couple of boxes, I can't quite get the 3000 fps, but was close. Accuracy was pretty good. A bit over 1 MOA, and not quite as good as my handloads, but not bad.

Data for reloaders is scarce, but Hornady uses it in a lot of factory loaded cartridges.

Sorry, NO.

Superformance Ammunition may or not be loaded with Superformance Powder, mostly NOT.

Don't believe me, call Hornady and ask them if their 223 and 308 Superformance Ammunition is loaded with Hodgdon Superformance powder.

No need to contact Hornady. They answer this question on their FAQ page.

What calibers can I hand load/reload with Hodgdon Superformance powder?

Hornady started loading the Superformance line of ammunition in 2010. Hodgdon followed up with the introduction of a Superformance powder available for hand loaders. It is important to note that the one Superformance powder that Hodgdon sells is not useable in ALL rifle calibers. Like all other powders, it has one particular burn rate and will work great in some cases, ok in others and should not be used the rest. A hand loader wouldn't think of using Varget or Retumbo in all their calibers from 17 Hornet to 375 H&H, neither should they think of Superformance in that way.

Hornady uses commercial grade Superformance powders of varying burn rates and also blends powders to offer a full line of Superformance cartridges. The Superformance powder that Hodgdon sells is one particular burn rate that does well in some short magnum cartridges along with some others that are listed in their load data and also in the latest editions of the Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading.

Also this from Hodgdon's web site.

This is another of the spherical powders Hodgdon® Powder Company and Hornady® Manufacturing introduced to answer the frequently asked reloading question: "Can I buy the powder used in the Hornady Superformance factory ammunition?" Superformance delivers striking velocities in cartridges like the 22-250 Remington, 243 Winchester and 300 Winchester Short Magnum. Velocities well in excess of 100 fps over the best published handloads and even larger gains over factory ammunition! Because this propellant is tailored for specific applications, the number of cartridges and bullets is limited, but where it works, it really works!

So there are different Superformance powders? And only one is currently available for handloaders. Am I understanding this right.

FWIW, I tried Hornady's Superformance loads in both 30-06 and 308. Neither matched quoted speeds from my rifles although the 308 was close enough. My 30-06 handloads with either H4350 or IMR4350 matched the speeds I was actually getting. And my handloads were more accurate.

The Superformance 308 loads were a fair bit faster than I could get with any powder I've tried, although a bit less than advertised. Accuracy was not quite as good as my handloads, but acceptable. If I needed to buy factory 308 ammo I'd use it.

Hornady Ammunition uses proprietary powders and powder blends not available to the handlaoder.
