Surefire X200 vs X300

Anyone know the spec differences between the two lights? I have an X200A, but they don't stock it anymore, so I can't directly check the specs. I assume there is a difference in lumen output and beam shape, and maybe battery life.

Anyone know?

As I understood it, the x300 had a better output, longer battery life & was little less expensive vs. the x200. I use to work w/ a guy that also worked at SF & he stated that the technology just afforded them the upgrade at a lower cost

I have, and haven't found a direct comparison. I'm not saying it's not out there (actually, I'm rather certain it is), just that I haven't found it.

The X200A used an older TIR (total internal reflective) optic that produced a square beam with a good deal of throw or distance light but not much sidespill for area lighting. The X200B took the opposite approach and used a reflector with a brighter 5 watt led (the X200 has a 3 watt) but it was all flood with very little throw. The X200B's beam was very similar to the Surefire L4 and L2 flashlights while the X200A is closer to the KL1 and L1 flashlights but it is driven harder putting out closer to 60 lumens instead of the 22 or 30 of the KL1/L1.

The new X300 used a much improved TIR optic that it shares with the E1B, E2DL, L1, and E1L/E2L flashlights. It also used a newer more efficient cree LED that produces more light and will run longer than either the X200A or B models. Its beam is much improved in my opinion being a much better compromise between throw and flood. This makes it more all around useful compared to its earlier counterparts.

If it were up to me I would go for the X300 or the new X400 with the laser as opposed to the older X200's. YMMV.

I find the X200B to be perfect for use in my home, completely lighting up an entire room or hallway without a blinding spot reflection. I have seen photos of the X300's beam and while it seems to offer periphery coverage, the spot seems incredibly intense, while offering less periphery than the X200B. I have a cree in a G2 and it is much too bright in the confines of my white-walled house. I wish I could use an X300 for a night before committing to purchase one in order to confirm. The X200B is perfect for my applications within the home - I wouldn't want to regret the purchase of the X300 if it proved to be too much light. As a side note, isn't it outstanding that we can now talk about a small, light, bulletproof, weapon-mounted light as possibly producing too much light!
