Anyone use this? I have a box of 168 grain Amax bullets I thought I’d try. Hornady’s has data but that’s all I can find.

I’ve never used it. Burn rate charts I’ve seen have it between IMR 8208 and Alliant AR Comp

If Hornady has data for it, and you’re using their bullets why not start with their load?

My understanding is that Shooters World Tactical Rifle is similar to H335...so maybe more suited to .223 than .308.

You might be better severed with SW4350 or Precision Rifle

That’s the plan. I typically like to have more than one source for data, but I also try to use Hornady data with Hornady bullets.

I’m trying to use the powders I have on hand, which are AR Plus, Tactical Rifle, and Match Rifle. I tried IMR 4064 but somehow it wouldn’t shoot from my rifle. It also ran into pressure much sooner than expected.

CFE 223 also had issues I’d rather not deal with, though it was accurate. The gas block setting is different than my other loads and I get bent rims if I accidentally leave it in the other setting.

There’s no way I’m paying what SW wants for Precision Rifle. It’s $75/lb locally.

AR Plus has data from Hornady and shot well, but I use it in other loads and have just enough.

Match Rifle would probably work but I can only find data with Sierra 168 grain bullets.

I only have 100 of the Amax bullets and don’t plan to get any more unless the 168 grain Speer bullets won’t shoot with SW Match Rifle.

PSA AR10. Yes I have digital and bound copies of the SW Reloading guide. It’s a little more detailed on their interactive site.

If it were a bolt gun the CFE 223 load would be fine. However if the gas is too high, extraction starts just a bit too soon and bends the rim sometimes.

I’ve used SW Tactical Rifle in .223, .308, and 6.5 Grendel.
I like it. Gives excellent velocities and accuracy in the .223.
Unremarkable in the .308, but then my .308 is unremarkable with anything…(Remington M700 “Tactical” w/20”heavy barrel).
My Howa M1500 Mini in 6.5Grendel especially likes it with the Hornady 95gr Vmax.
Glad I bought an 8lb keg when it was cheap.
I also got Match Rifle and Precision Rifle, too.

I’ve had pretty good luck with it in 223. I should probably expand its use. I’d be content with an 8 lb jug of any of the ones listed from SW. One always seems available but not all three. I would have tried Precision Rifle before the recent price jump but that’s out now.

I have had good luck with SW precision rifle when Varget was hard to find.

SW web site list a match load using Winchester brass and primers, 168 SMK and 42.5 grains of Tactical rifle. 2.800. That should be an excellent reference point for your 168 A max.

I used to switch back and fourth with a max and smk.

I have had good luck with it from 62-77gr .223, and 150gr .308. Should do pretty well with 168's, case fill probably won't be great. Shooters world should have data for it with 168's. My best comparison with a "known" powder would be AA2460.

CFE 223 is awesome. But it is a tad hot in some of the barrels I've switched around. Better choices for .308 for me. To keep expensive brass nice I skip it. .223 with barnes 53 and 55 it makes a deer slayer. Some powders smell good to me. CFE 223 isn't one. Just useless info.

I'm not competing or hunting, so trouble free and accurate shooting are at the top of my list. CFE223 in my 308 only gets 1/2. That load with the 168 Amax bullets is almost accurate enough for me to overlook the cycling issues, but not quite.

It's probably worth just using the Match Rifle, other than I can't find data specifically with Hornady bullets and my barrel/chamber seems to hit pressure earlier than I'd expect.

That's the point. We just can't give up.
