SWC for self defense?

You can think whatever you want about the LSW as a defensive bullet.

Thank you, I shall.

There is a reason they are not used by the very people who must protect, and yes, sometimes take lives for a living.

Of course; there is a reason for everything--but not always a good one, and certainly not always the stated one.

Most if not all of the greater metropolitan law enforcement agencies in the US have compiled a substantial amount of data that involves real world shootings of people

I expect they have; but I would be surprised to find that they've done a comparative statistical analysis of that data and based their ammo requisitions on it. Which is a little beside the point, when we recall that the assertion to which I responded was:

Look on the internet.....there is a wealth of data

My primary point is that I have looked at the internet, and I don't find there to be what I consider a wealth of data in support of the superiority of JHP's (apart from concerns about overpenetration, which I concede dictate expanding bullets in some sit.s) over Elmer Keith's SWC or a bullet operating on similar principles. Quite to the contrary, I find a PAUCITY of data available to regular end users like us; and if there is a secret stash of police data, it doesn't seem to be leaking out for public consumption.

I'm not trying to put Speer out of business here ;) ; just making the point that the superpowers of JHP's MIGHT be one of those areas where 'common sense' is based on a more tenuous line of evidence than is widely supposed.
