A young fella at the range where I shoot is looking for a nice K31. He's watching one on Gunbroker but the price is over $450 and the auction isn't over for at least a week.

I've got two (but neither is for sale) and I didn't pay near that much last year. When did the price spike?

I'd like to help him find an affordable one -- add shipping, and the seller is asking $45 to ship, plus FFL plus sales tax here in WA state -- and the price of what he's looking at is over $500. Wow!

Anyone know of any dealers who still have them. I'll be search the interwebs for him, but I thought I'd ask around as well.

The range don't pay all that much and I'd like to help him out...he's great with new shooters and has given me a couple of pointers.

thanks in advance.

The ship has sailed on cheap milsurps. I paid $89.95 for my K31 from AIM Surplus back in 2005.

I paid $230 for mine in 2013. Very nice gun but there's only so many left.

$165 in 2007.

With milsurp rifles and milsurp ammo, it's important to buy them WHILE they are actively being imported. After the imports stop, it becomes a seller's market and prices go up!

I've kicked myself plenty of times for not getting on the train at the right time.

Best bet now for finding one cheap might be pawn stores (although any worth it's salt will know what they are worth and price accordingly), or family estate sales. They're common enough they should turn up here and there at estate auctions.

Check armslist or other online postings for FTF local sales. Samco had a substantial batch but they have went belly up so it will be awhile before those reappear. Try Classic Arms and AIM Surplus as your best bet and keep checking them on a very regular basis.

Consider the older K11 or Swiss 1911 Long rifle as well--they are about as accurate and depending on your eyesight as it has a very long sight radius--the 1911 Long Rifle can be as equally accurate as the K31 and K11 (the carbine version of the 1911 Long Rifle) are actually more scarce numbers wise than K31's. All use the same ammo. Be careful about getting the older Schmidt Rubin 96/11 rifles that were converted to the new GP11 standard.

A few years ago, when K-31s were going for $129 in Shotgun News, I went down to Simpson's in Galesburg and found THIS K-31 with a large crack in the forend. Mr. Simpson let me have it for $79 dollars! A judicious application of Elmer's wood glue the next day fixed the problem! It has not cracked since and I have put several hundred rounds through it.

As far as bargains go....that is about as good as it gets!

They're out there, though; I tells ya, I saw 'em. Pallets and pallets un 'em!

I want to believe...but I want reliable import/production of GP11 more (get your rears in gear, RUAG!)

Simpson's Ltd is the best source, since they list individual rifles in detail. They have long-standing connections in Switzerland, and have been bringing in K-31s years before the 'surplus' dealers.

Saw a k31 at Cabelas last night for the low, low price of....$759! It was a run-of-the-mill beech stock, and someone had cobbled on an aftermarket rear sight.
