Why are the cowboy action SxS barrels 20"? I wouldn't mind having a short SxS as a HD gun, but would prefer the shortest legal length, i.e. 18".

I'm thinking you'll find 20" barrels plenty short---even my Beretta with 26" barrels is a small gun---its even a good 1.5in shorter than my 26" barreled Beretta O/U due to action length.

Don't quote me on this......
........but I think that 20 inches is the shortest a barrel can be for all powder to burn. I may very well be wrong and it could be shorter. Also heard one reason is that some states require a 20 inch length as the shortest length that a shottie coulld be to be legal.
