I've always liked the look of old takedown hunting rifles, but I've always wondered about accuracy. First how accurate are they compared to a non-takedown version?

Also, say you assembled your takedown out of the case, can you just go right ahead and hunt or do you have to sight it in with each assembly?

Takedown rifles are nothing new with manufacturers like Winchester, Savage and Marlin having made them 100 years ago. They seem to be enjoying a resurgence in popularity over the past several years.

The accuracy is fine and especially when we look at them as hunting rifles. No, you do not have to sight in the rifle every time it is taken down and put together. The majority hold their zero and accuracy just fine assuming the rifle hasn't been beat to death.

This is pretty generic for a reply and just touches on takedown rifles in general without consideration for any make, model or design.

Here's my take down rifle,

Not only does the rifle take down, the scope comes right off too, and when I put the rifle together, and snap one of the scopes on it always goes back to zero.

From a field position at 100 "measured" yards, I snapped one scope on and fired the two shots. Then lifted "that" scope off and snapped the other scope on, firing two more shots...

I guess I could have adjusted the second scope a click or two left, but I didn't... (two holes at the right of the bull)

Hmm. . .not only is the rifle accurate, but your shooting is not too shabby either. I may need to rethink my feelings about take-down rifles.

Beautiful rifle !
Is it german made ?

I own a Marlin 1895 SBL (that I like a lot). :)
