Talk to me about the Glock 26

I woke up yesterday with a burning urge to just go get one of these 9mm baby glocks and call it good.

I’ve never been particularly moved by glocks as an object of affection but, like everyone else, I freely admit that they work very well. Years ago, I had a G19 that never hiccupped (long gone in favor of .45s and .357s).

My leaning towards a G26 at this point is because it has been successfully used for everything from shoving in a pocket to taking advanced shooting classes, to actually shooting things (legally), and the 9mm ammo is cheap and available enough (in my area) to practice/enjoy a lot more regularly than my .45. I figure that I can find accessories in stock anytime day or night tomorrow, to boot.

I sort of just want to wed myself to one gun for a while and go shoot it… (last time I went on a tear of going through multiple shooting schools in quick succession, I did it with a K-frame, because I knew the platform and it’s hard to screw it up).

So I’ll probably do a G26, soon.

What do you owners think I need to know… OD or Black? Steel or Night sights (no plastic for me)? Aftermarket drop-ins, such as guide rods, or recoil reducers (I’ll probably do a 3.5 connector and NY-1 trigger spring, since that treated my G19 well)? Favorite IWB rigs/makers?

TIA.

I think the factory night sights are pretty decent. I also like the 3.5# connector w/ NY1 spring. Well, I don't really "like" it...but I think it's better than the stock setup because it has a more consistent pull. That's about all I'd change on one. I also think the Pearce XL extension can come in handy also but I didn't use the extension for carry.

Holsters are all personal but I tend to like either a VM2 style holster or a MTAC style holster for IWB carry. The only thing I don't like about how the G2 rides is that it's a little more grip heavy than some guns because of the short barrel and 10 round mag. I think a longer barrel makes the gun more stable and rides a tiny bit easier. It's still good though.

I don't care what anyone says, the G26 is NOT an ideal pocket gun. I'm a sorta big guy and even in pants with big pockets, it's like carrying a brick around. Sure it will ride ok in a heavy duty winter jacket pocket or something, but not in any pants I've ever tried. If you have a 50" waist and your pants have pockets that can carry around a bowling ball....then maybe.

I like the 26. It's a good reliable compact pistol...but if I had to have one Glock 9mm to carry, I'd buy a 19. The size/weight difference is not a big deal to me and you get 5 extra rounds plus the same size grip as the 26 with the extension on it. In most types of carry it won't make much of a difference. I thought the 26 was a better choice at the time because I thought I might be able to pocket carry it. I was mistaken.

1911 guy, but...

I LOVE 1911s, but I seem to always find myself carrying my G26. It's very light and super concealable. With shorts and T-shirt it's undetectable and the weight is just noticeable enough to remind you you're carrying, but doesn't weigh you down. I use a MTAC Minotaur holster for IWB carry and the setup is rock solid. In cooler weather I'm sure I'll go with something else more often, but I sure don't feel unprepared with the G26. I left the gun stock (no night sites either) and didn't go with a mag extender either. I don't mind my little finger hanging off the bottom and didn't want to make the frame stick out any more. I've never tried carrying it in a pocket, but I'd imagine it'd be pretty bulky. Great carry piece!

The G26 is the only Glock I have extensive experience with. Mine was stock with adjustable sights, non-night variety, regular white outline. It shot well for me with good recoil recovery (perhaps because of the captive recoil spring?) It never gave me a problem with reliability and unlike some other shooters, I was OK with the grip. I carried it in a Comp-Tac IWB holster.
The problem? I never cared for the trigger, although I adjusted to it. The real rub was that I never cottoned to the gun. Of all my current handguns - and I'm not well endowed, with three .22s, a couple of .32s, three .38s, and three 9mms - it was my least favorite. I sold it without regrets and I think the current owner is satisfied with it. I'm not into fancy guns, but I like a little soul in them. The G26 had as much pizzazz as a Dodge Aries or macaroni and cheese. It would get me where I wanted to go,(or to continue my analogies, fill my belly) but without style, grace, or elan. That lack isn't necessarily bad, just not for me.

I went with the 27 simply because you can get a barell and mags and have a 9 AND a 40. I carry it in 40 when going to rough territory and 9 most other times. I bought it when the ammo situation was getting whacky and I was a bit worried about just what might be available and knowing most police use 40 I thought it might be safer.

OD = :barf: But it's your gun.

Steel or Night sights
Night.

Aftermarket drop-ins, such as guide rods, or recoil reducers
Ixnay. Not necessary.

(I’ll probably do a 3.5 connector and NY-1 trigger spring, since that treated my G19 well)?
That might be worthwhile as it is supposed to give a cleaner "break" at the stock 5.5# weight with a more positive reset. I've never tried it myself, though.

Favorite IWB rigs/makers?
UBG, Milt Sparks, Galco, High Noon.

This, I do largely agree with, as well as ...

...but if I had to have one Glock 9mm to carry, I'd buy a 19. The size/weight difference is not a big deal to me and you get 5 extra rounds plus the same size grip as the 26 with the extension on it.

However, it is easier to make a G26 bigger if you need to. You can't make the G19 smaller. ;)

A couple months ago a friend tried to give me a G26. I shot it for a couple weeks and gave it back.

Since the same friend also tried to give me a G17, and I told him No Thanks, I tried to like the G26 but I just don't like anything about it.

Last Sunday I borrowed the G26 for a new shooter to try out. Again he told me to keep it. I told him No Way.

I guess I'm just not a Glock fan.:D

Great choice! fine carry pistol, just not really pocket carry... If you don't need to tuck in your shirt I recommend the blade-tech nano iwb, fantastic holster.
For sights I like ameriglo's they have the most options and wide notch rears and thin fronts that work well on short barreled guns.

Don't be afraid to try a couple other connector and spring options out to find what you like best, you have to try to mess up a glock, and ignore those who preach that you've gotta keep it stock, just 'cause they want to lead a boring life doesn't mean you've got to!

Almost forgot... You'll want these, seriously the best thing for sub-compact glocks...: www.concealablecontrol.com

Good luck!

Gonna get one myself once I settle into the new house (we're in the middle of buying a new house and selling our old one).

That's one of the reasons I'm getting one. I like the fact that I can CC it fairly easily yet still have a G19 mag as a backup...or just use G19 mags at the range. And accessories are easy to find.

ETA: I did shoot/handle several other subcompacts (including the M&P-9c, CZ 2075, Px-4, XD-9sc) and I kept coming back to the G26. It's not for everyone...but it is for me.

I have one. Get one with night sights. Also, I'm going to add the 3.5 trigger soon, no NY spring or any of that stuff. If I had to sell all my guns but one, the G26 is probably the one I'd keep. I liked the G26 so much that I traded in my Springfield GI for one.

That's true. I was also thinking that when I bought my 26...but it's still just not the same. You can get extensions and you can even get a sleeve that goes on a 19 mag to fill in the gap. The grip still doesn't feel like a 19 grip though. Something about those add-ons doesn't feel quite right to me. I think the 26 is best without any grip extensions but that's a personal preference. Just gotta learn to tuck that pinky finger.

I guess my point is that if you can conceal a 26 easily, you can also conceal a 19 easily too. I don't think you can go wrong with either a 26 or a 19, but I just wish I had bought the 19 first because it's more of an all-around kinda gun than the 26. For carrying in a winter jacket pocket, the 26 is the Glock for the job. On a belt....ehh...not much of a difference to me so I'd go for the 19.

I love my G26. I carry it with the 12 round factory mag when I can, and when ultra concealment is required I use the original ten rounders.

Absolutely a kick butt gun, accurate and stone cold reliable.

Can't go wrong with the 26, just picked one up about a month ago. It is a bit heavy for pocket carry but not overbearing, IWB would be your best bet.

I'd go black, stock sights (upgrade to your own night sight preference), stick with the stock guide rod...

M2 Carbine...if you and your friend don't like the G26, you can always give it to me. :)
I've been wanting to try one out for a higher capacity carry piece than my LCP or SP101.

I just purchased a glock 26 after debating between that and the glock 27. Should have it next week! A 26 is the way to go for sure. Glocks are excellent guns and i honestly don't see any reasons for upgrades. It's good the way it is. And the fixed sights are not bad at all. I highly prefer them over the XD's or any other sight for that matter.

FWIW... the G26 has no equal in the subcompact size, with its combination of size and 10 to 12 9mm rounds. Lots of folks pocket carry it, you'll get used to it. And concealing it is easy. Best yet, you get the Glock reliability and the 26 is second only to the 17 or 34 in accuracy.

It's the little pistol that shoots like a big pistol! Really, I shoot it better than I shoot the 19 and just as well as the 17.

I own two.
'Nuff said.

I can find accessories in stock anytime day or night tomorrow, to boot.

The only real accessory you will need is a good holster (I really like the FIST #1AK for my 27, it is extremely thin and has a good feel to it, I use an MTAC for the 23) and a mag pouch. I like the factory magazine carrier the best, holds the magazine nice and low, and close, very comfortable. I've got Trijicon night sights on my 23 and like them. But it is nice to know you can completely rebuild your pistol without having to scour the internet for the parts.

I also shoot my 27 better than my 23, don't know why but the baby Glocks are the best.

I appreciate all the input thus far, folks. Some good thoughts here, the number one evidently being to just go out and get one. Works for me.
