The 10 anniversary of my wedding day rolled around on July 1st, so to celebrate we took a cruise. We drove from basicly Memphis to New Orleans and left from there and went to Cozemel and back. The trip was great, but what was bad was the only option I had as far a gun goes was to leave my CCW at home
I really noticed not having my gun when we stayed the night in Jackson Mississippi. We pulled into the hotel about 11pm and the whole time I just felt exposed. I did the best I could with a can of Fox and a good size knife but it wasn't the same. It felt real good to get back home and finally get my Steyr back in my waistband. My CCW have definitely crossed the line to being more comforting to have, than uncomfortable to wear.

Geeeeez, you remind me of the fact that in late July, as well as late September, I'll be leaving my new home in Florida (well, my home for the last 8 years) for a week's vacation each time. In July, I'm driving to New York with my girlfriend, and in September I'm flying to NY and then driving to Hyannis (then taking the ferry to Nantucket).

I'll be gunless the whole time, regretfully. :fire:

It REALLY SUCKS.

I won't be knifeless, but hey, I'm no combat knife expert or anything. A knife, to me, is a desperate last ditch weapon with which to SCARE OFF a would-be attacker. I sure as hell would not want to have to ENGAGE someone that way. (I mean I could and would, but it's a whole lot riskier to my life and limb than shooting an attacker would be.)

I may have a good time on these vacations, but I will relish being back where I can legally carry.

you got that, unfortunately, having had to engage acouple of times in my career, you learn that nobody gets out of a knife fight uncut. and believe me it sucks. my left hand is still not the same 18 years later.

??? Which state (TN, AR) do you live in? Do you have a CHL?

Mississippi and Louisiana allow you to carry a handgun in your car without a CHL.

I live in Arkansas, about an hour away from Memphis. I could have taken it with me under a journeyman's law or something since Miss. doesn't accept Ar. CCW. The problem with carrying a gun with me is that I would have had to leave in locked up in my car for the time I was on the cruise. Granted the car was being kept in a "secure" parking lot, but just leaving it in the car for someone to "find" was a risk I didn't want to take.

You think you feel naked without a CCW? I'm 15, never CCW, and live in California. It can't get much worse than that. I don't even have a handgun in my house.

Not to say I'm unarmed though.
