I was gifted this scope, thinking about trying it out on my old Marlin model 80DL 22 long rifle.

It has the deer head emblem and a sticky that says: "tasco, inspected, asia" on it. No model # or model name. I have a Weaver 4x mounted on the Marlin now, that is a great scope, but my old eyes need a little more help.

What do you guys think? Am I wasting my time?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

The Tasco reputation is that they make cheap low-end scopes. So your experience will depend on how good your scope holds up. You can always put your Weaver back on if it doesn't pan out.

Mom had one in 2-8x32 iirc on her Knight MK85 muzzleloader for several decades before I swapped in a Leupold last year. I believe she bought it in 1990 and though she didn’t shoot much outside of hunting season she’s collected 40 or so deer in that time.

Scope still works, still floating around my basement somewhere. It was never the clearest, didn’t track perfectly, but it did hold zero all those years. I have a few Tasco 3-9x scopes on .22s that are even older, made in Japan by LOW. None of these compare favorably to modern scopes in the $100-$150 category for light gathering and clarity though they still get the job done.

I've had a number of Tasco scopes. I got rid of them after missing a shot at a coyote. I had sighted in the rifle about 10 days before. I checked it again a day or two after the miss and it was 10 inches off.
