Ok here the deal every time I go to the Px i see this Taurus Pt1911 in 45 auto for around 525 including a lazer and surefire prezerod and mounted. Now Im poor I know this. So my gun budget is down to 1 every 5 pay days or so. This one closer to 8 before the wife lets me blow more of the money I work for. My biggest question is how dependable are taurus pistols? Would it be worth it? Im not looking for gun snobs to shoot it down cause its not a kimber custom or sig. I just need an honest open opinion. Also do they have a warranty of any kind?

they have a lifetime warranty, but I believe you have to ship the gun to brazil, and there are reports they don't always get it right the first time. That said, I had one that was awesome (sold it because I just couldn't make myself like 45). 3lb factory trigger, ate everything I fed it and was plenty accurate. The finish was a little thin (matte blued type) and the ambi safety was a cheap part. Sights were in a proprietary dovetail. I'd also consider the RIA tactical and the sti spartan.

when taurus actually releases the 9mm 1911 I may take another run at them. In the meantime I've fallen in love with the EAA witness elite match.

I love mine, it's been completely reliable. The lifetime warranty is definitely a plus. My father in law liked mine so much that he bought one for himself. IMHO it's an excellent pistol at a very good price.

With the Taurus 1911 you tend to get a lot of value for the money.

That being said, I handled one at a gun show and quickly realized I did not ever want one. It had a plastic grip that dug in uncomfortably into my hands (I suggest replacing it with an aftermarket grip) and the pistol itself felt blockier & more harsh to my hands than Kimber/Springfield/S&W 1911's.

I highly suggest that you handle one before you buy it. If it feels okay in your hands & it fits into your budget I would go for it.

Cheers

Would you use it for a CCW? Like life depending on it? Currently I use my bursa 380.
I definitely would use it for CCW. I have no qualms about staking my life on it (namely because I've shot it enough to know it's reliable. That being said, I do not currently have a CCL so I haven't tried to conceal it outside of the house. I will say it feels heavy in a cheap holster. If you're a smaller guy, it might not necessarily be the best choice for CCW.

I would go for an ria/spartan and add the extras. Im not fond of the taurus security system. Its a gun not a car it shouldnt need a key to work

RIA is rock island armory, they are produced by armscor in the philippenes. They have a good reputation as a decent starter 1911, they also have an excellent reputation for customer service. The spartan is a STI branded 1911, they are a high end company from Texas. But they buy the frame and slide for the spartan from armscor and assemble it here with sti parts ( correct me if incorrect ). Both guns get great reviews.

I'm not a big fan of them, but I'm not a hater either.

I thought about getting a railed one as a beater a while back, but someone beat me to it.

I dont know what you consider small, but I'm 6ft tall and 150lbs, and can tell you a good holster makes a world of difference. I carried a 5" Kimber in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II for years. And since 29x32 jeans are a pain to find, I already had a good belt and all of my jeans were an inch too big in the waist when I started carrying.

I've got one, and two of my brothers have them - all have been 100% reliable since they came out of the box. A good gun at a good price. Taurus customer service has been given a bad reputation, but there are a lot of folks who are quite happy with them as well. My PT-1911 has had many, many rounds of all types of .45ACP through it without a hiccup. The Taurus Safety System is no big deal - if you don't want to use it, don't use it. You'll never know it's there. Everyone ought to have a 1911 - but you don't need to spend $1000+ to get one.

my first entry level 1911 was a regent and it has been a good gun but if i could go back knowing what i know now i would have picked up a RIA Tactical.

I was just trying to cover all of my bases and point out some potential drawbacks. I'm hoping to invest in a quality piece of leather myself. Sounds like that probably isn't going to be a problem for the OP however.

The LA is for Louisiana, not Los Angeles, so it hasn't been a drastic switch. But TX has treated me well thus far, and I plan on being here a while. Good luck on finding the right pistol for you.

Taurus has a service facility in Miami. I have a PT1911 for the past 4 years, no issues whatsoever. I think its one of the best bargains out there.

It may well be the best bargain 1911 going and one Taurus got right. I've put a few rounds down range with one courtesy of a friend's wife. He shoots a Citadel (PI) that to me felt a bit better and cost a bit less.

I just ordered a S&W ES series 1911, $740 for a Govt., SS, titanium firing pin, no hammer block, front cocking serrations, checkered front strap, oversized external extractor, and a whole lot more. Made in the USA and lifetime service policy.

Taurus is the best way to go for a low-cost 1911 with a lot of little "extras" that you don't get on other guns for the same price. The first one I had was a black one and I traded it because the finish was very thin and prone to rusting. I traded it for the same thing, just in stainless. I've been very pleased with my stainless. It's a great range gun that I don't worry about hurting. I've got somewhere around 4000 rounds through mine without a single problem. It's very dependable.

I have one too, have trijicon night sights and custom grips on it. Love the gun but dont ccw it. kinda hot down here to carry a 1911, but it dose work fine with no problems at all.

Mine has shot consistantly without fail since day one
Its accurate and the reason I now love 1911s
before I got the PT1911 I looked into almost every handgun manufacturer and model I could find in Delaware (where Im from) and Found that I liked the way 1911s feel in my hand and how the sights lined up naturaly for me but the model I held was a Springfield Custom model with a hefty price tag
I looked into the cheaper models and found that they were either still out of my price for the features I wanted or they didnt have the features but I could afford them

I stumbled across a Taurus ad for the PT1911 and saw they had alot of features for the pricetag so i had to get one and I dont regret it at all

My Duo Tone was problem free from day one. I bought it as a base for a custom home build, and after proving itself I gutted it and replaced everything but the frame and slide. Mostly Ed Brown, Cylinder&Slide hammer group, and some Wilson Combat in the mix with Novaks fiber sights.

It turned out spectacular, and still doesn't miss a beat.
Now I'm waiting for them to come out with a Commander...Next project!

The PT1911 seems to be one of the better Taurus guns on the market. I bought the new PT1911 in 9mm about 3 weeks ago. I've put 400rds through it in 2 weekends just to see if it would run properly. It ate everything I tried to feed it.
Another 100rds of SD ammo and I'll carry it with complete confidence.
