Taurus 1911 ?

Got one. I have shot it enough to trust it as my daily carry. The key security system is there, but I don't use it so it's a non issue. I have fed it a variety of ammo. it loves Hornady Critical Defense and eats everything well.

Shoots as accurate as my buddies Les Baer , as nice as my old Colt, and at 25 yards, as accurate as my buddies wasted $3000 on a Wilson Combat that never gets shot because it's too pretty. I like mine a lot...

Love mine! Forged frame not cast like the other cheaper 1911's. Only gripe is the bluing. Eats anything I feed it, unlike a lot of Colts. Great pistol for the money!:D

Taurus has a lifetime warranty, my experience with them has been good. I called in a complaint FedEx showed up the next day, and my gun was back in 13 days. As far as the Pt 1911 BUY IT. Five years ago before I had heard of Taurus I was at the range shooting my Colt 1911 with crimson laser grips, when it coughed and died. Well I still had ammo so the range master got me a rental to finish up. He brought out a Pt 1911, I looked at it and thought "what is this Mexican piece of crap"? The fit and finish are no where near what I was used to with Colt, and Kimber. But the trigger was crisper than the Colt, all I could think was wow not a looker but a great shooter. Don't let snobs put you off, the PT is a great gun for those who just want that beautiful Browning designed chunk of steel in their hands, without the 1k price tag.

I've got safe queens and I've got shooters, and I'm pretty hard on my shooters. They get rode hard and put up wet. The stainless Taurus that I have is a shooter. It's not precision accurate, but I shoot it just as accurately as I shoot my more expense guns. The gun has about 4000 rounds through it and I'll admit that it's pretty loose. The barrel to bushing fit is still nice, but the slide has some side to side play. I can shake the gun sideways and it will rattle. But that doesn't hurt its accuracy or reliability. A hand-fit gun it isn't. But it's a great shooter and has even pulled some duty on my nightstand. I'd trust my life to it in a heartbeat. The main thing is that it's a lot of fun! I enjoy shooting a 1911 that I don't constantly worry about making sure it's sat down on a pistol rug or worry about getting a scratch or putting wear in the finish. I shoot it, set it down on whatever surface I want, I slide it around, and bang it up and it's still a cool gun.

My Duo Tone was problem free from day one. I bought it as a base for a custom home build, and after proving itself I gutted it and replaced everything but the frame and slide.

Does this make absolutely no sense to anybody else??????

Chad,

Mine has been Totally Awesome and I mean Dead Reliable! Never a Failure-of any Kind-EVER! With the Taurus 1911 you get so many Extra's without paying a High Price. Mine is Stainless and BEAUTIFUL! I have a Friend who has the Duo-Tone-Nice Looking gun also. I could not say enough good things about mine. It will shoot any Ammo-Period! Accuracy has been Great! My Friend Loves his too. It really is an Excellent buy for the money. Easily worth 200-400 more then you pay for it! I Hope this Helps.

The Best to You and Yours!

Frank

.357 mag,

You should probably replace all the internals now that you have proven that it works!

Just kidding. I couldn't resist.....

I did it to learn how to build and tune 1911's. I spent more in tools than the gun cost. The learning process was long and slow, but very rewarding in the end product.
Can you fit a barrel and bushing, do a trigger job, fit and tune an extractor and firing pin stop, or any of the other things it takes to make a 1911 run like a Timex?
It's my hobby, I tweak all my firearms to some extent. Please don't slam me for this.

Yes, I think most call it a Caspian. No gutting required.

Dewalt, the point is that it costs less to do a full build than a rebuild and that if a pistol is reliable it ought to be left alone. Any modification of a proven pistol is it's undoing without another 1000 rounds down range.

I doubt anyone was knocking your efforts, my compliments on taking the initiative.

Mooner,

No Offense taken. I am just not the type to mess with the Gun if it works right. I figure that is what they do at the Manufacturing level. It is a Hell of a talent though and I Admire it. For me I just like to keep em Clean, Accurate and Reliable. In case I should have to Rock N' Roll over some Threat to the Family.

Have a Great Weekend!

Gutting a proven firearm had me scratching my head till I read this, and I cant say much since I do the same with cars. Oddly enough, I've spent as much on tools as I have parts, strange how that works out, huh?

I've never fitted a barrel and/or bushing, but unless it requires a mill (dovetails), I do about everything else myself.

I would have a hard time buying a 1911 that wasn't made in America, but thats just me. I have no experience with the gun, but I have liked every Taurus I have used, so that probably doesn't make much sense but I'm a patriot what can I say.

never had a issue with mine and its a tack driver. i can dust clay piegons at 50+ yards with the orignal sights. all i have done is put some grips on it. i do plan on a skeleton hammer and matching sear from WC as well as their saftey/slide stop. only because the looks.

also if i remember right the taurus frame is the same as the STI, meaning its the same manufacture.

love it so much im looking at getting a .22LR conversion so i can shoot it more often.

Well I fondled and put one on lay away. I am getting a bonus next week and will use part to pick one up. I will do a range report when I get her home and check her out.

I got one for Christmas and it had bad ejection jams, so I sent it off. 2 weeks later got it back and it shoots great. It doesn't like Remington 'on sale' stuff, (one jam per hundred) but shoots everything else just fine.

I am by no means a pro, and this gun makes me look real good at the range. It's like the bullets are hand delivered to the target! Surprisingly accurate!
