FedEx dropped my Taurus 65 off today after a 2 month vacation in sunny Miami. Apparently a yoke retaining screw broke and caused the cylinder to fall off. I had been contemplating sending back before this, to have the cylinder gap set and the extractor rod straightened, so I asked Taurus to fix everything at once. It took some time, but cost me $8 shipping in the end, so I cannot complain. The gun was returned better than new with a straight extractor rod, .04 cylinder gap, new yoke retaining screws, and they even cleaned and oiled it :)

Thanks for posting. I have a 669 with a wide cylinder gap I was thinking about sending back. Glad it's easy.

2 months? that's a very long time. either they're understaffed, or they're understaffed with lots of returns of guns that need to be fixed. that's not very assuring.

I think my wait was about 6 weeks for repair, but I did have to pay $30+ shipping to the factory. Smith and Wesson wasn't any faster so I figure this is the best to be expected for standard factory repair service.

2 months is quick

it took them 5 months and change to FINALLY decide to send me a replacement gun

I sent a Rossi to Taurus for work..took like 1 month(cost $35 for shipping).I sent a S/W back..came back 4 days later(and they paid for shipping)of course I was a little POed when I called smith as my ccw didn't go bang every time. The guy on the phone said"I understand,I'd be upset too."The lady from Taurus could've cared less(although it was less of a problem and more of a "hey this triiger sucks, can you fix it?"issue w/ the Rossi.
I just sent some mags back to Taurus for fixing,we'll see how long it takes.

I have an OLD 4" mod 94 that could use some service....this might be a good time to see how long that "lifetime" they warranty really is :scrutiny:

I have a Taurus M44 that went out of time after about 100 rounds. Sent it in, and 6 weeks latter got it back with the same problem. Long story short, paid for shipping a second time and got it back fixed properly after about 3 weeks. Out $60+ for shipping, but have had no problems since. May not be typical, just frustrating.

I've got 3 Tauri (PT92, M651, M970), and all three have been send back for service. The "real" problem with them is that I bought them sight unseen (mail-order), and I didn't notice any problems until after I played with them for a few weeks. However, all were fixed for free. BTW, I'm REALLY nitpicky about my guns, so that might explain the following...

The PT92 has gone back twice: once because I completely screwed up the key lock spring and lost the associated detent ball, and second time was because the muzzle end of the barrel wasn't perfectly centered in the opening in the slide. Both were fixed and returned within 4 weeks, and they even changed out my grip screws after I'd mangled them with a tapered head screwdriver... (Everyone should buy some hollow-ground gunsmith-type screwdriver sets)

The M970 is currently out on its second trip. I noticed that the barrel wasn't completely screwed on to where the front sight was perfectly vertical, causing me to have to set the adjustable sights WAAAY off to one side, and it just looked stupid. When it came back, it had the same problem, just in the opposite direction; they'd screwed it in too far! This also caused the cylinder gap to close up to where it would bind up after a dozen rounds... Taurus paid the FedEx shipping the second time, and it came back in 4 weeks during its first trip. Hopefully, when it returns it will be all lined up straight... or else!

The M651 worked fine, but I thought the timing was a little off because of a lockup problem with the yoke, so I sent it back in along with the M970; since Taurus was paying for the shipment of the M970, they said I could just put it in the same box with no worries... I'll let you know when they both come back.

Long story shortened: my new rule is to just pay the $30-60 more and buy locally and INSPECT it thoroughly before purchase, instead of trying to save a few bucks over the Internet. Every problem could have been prevented by me not screwing with it or simply inspecting before I bought them. Also, Taurus Customer Service has been good to me, fixing my own screw-ups and me only paying shipping, or them paying for the shipping when they screwed up (they even had FedEx pick it up at my door). The 3 times I've gotten return shipments have all been at 4 weeks or less from the time I sent it.

If you have a big request, just be nice, friendly, and sunny when you call their customer service dept (the operator is always short though), and if you don't get the answer you want, call back a couple days later until you get a different person with a more sympathetic ear!

BTW, do they buy cosmoline by the ton? I think I get a few pounds of it inside every gun I buy from them!

Well, complain about Taurus service if you will, but it should be obvious that the wait times are variable. My step-dad sent a Ruger in to get some work done (had them put a hammer on a hammerless model, plus some other minor things like replace the screws) and it took 3 weeks. In the same time period, my dad sent a Ruger in for some different, and ostensibly easier, work (broken mainspring), and it took a full year. Who knows why there was such a massive difference in timeframes, but there was. In the long run, I am just glad that Taurus offers and upholds a lifetime warranty.

I talked to the state IDPA champion in my area last week, and he stated
that he has worn out three Taurus model 65 revolvers and that the fine
folks at Tauri International have sent him a brand new firearm each time.
He stated that he sends a'round 70,000 bullets down range per year from
these Taurus firearms; and that is all he uses~! :scrutiny:  :uhoh:

They have a lifetime warranty, because it will take that long for them to make a decent firearm!!!

ok dude!

carterbeauford, that really sucks that it took you that long to get it back, but that is understanble i guess, as long as you have a gun to take it's place. it really sucks that you had to pay the shipping that is a no go in my book especially if they aren't gonna take care of it.

Btw whatever happened with the female and you that you posted a while back? did everything work out or did ya'll move on and seperate. if you gave all that out already i am sorry that i missed, just wondering, just wanted to know if it did go south if you were doing alright. like i said before pm me if you need to i will talk as much as i can. have a good one.
