I recently picked up a PT740 Slim at a good price from the LGS after returning a Kahr CW9 that was plagued with malfunctions. (they have a real nice full credit policy if you buy something similar) I had been looking for something to replace a Glock 27 for off duty carry since I often got lazy and made excuses for not carrying the brick.
I shot it once to sort it out and was very impressed. The trigger is about 4 lbs and crisp. Way better all around than previous Kel-tec PF9 (fell apart) P11 (awful trigger) Kahr CW9 (jam-o-matic). I like the baby Glocks but they are a bit bigger than what I wanted.
The LE NRA National PPC Championship was coming up and since I was already shooting in the Stock semi-auto duty pistol match I thought what the heck, lets try the PT740 in the off duty match (3.6 in. barrel or less) and see how she does. My score (442 out of 480 if you're familiar with PPC, shooting from 3 to 25 yds) was only a few points less than what I shot with my Glock 19 duty pistol where I placed 4th in my category. The off duty match results won't be in till tomorrow but I was quite pleased with the little Taurus. And it is a pistol one can really carry, unlike all the little baby $3k 1911 9mm target pistols masquerading as off duty pistols most of the competitors were shooting.
I only have about 300 flawless rds thru the 40 so far but at this point it is definately a keeper.
(update- my 442 score gave me 3rd place for the off-duty pistol match- not bad for a pistol that cost a fraction of what most were shooting- I really doubt I would have scored higher with a Glock 26 or 27 either)
