Well, after researching the various gun forums, I took the plunge a few weeks ago and purchased a new TP-22 in nickle finish with rose wood grips. The dealer had it tagged for $199.00, but I offered $185.00 cash and walked out the door about twenty minutes latter. The first trip to the range, I took the only .22 ammo that I had on hand: 1) Federal Lighting, and 2) Federal bulk pack of 36 grain HP (550 round count). I expected feeding problems, so I brought a cleaning kit. I needed that kit, because it took several magazines and several cleanings to get through even one magazine without a jam. I had a few misfires, but mostly jams when the gun tried to eject the spent cartridge and would get caught on the next cartridge coming up from the magazine. I also took some emery cloth and smoothed the inner lips of the magazine. I was determined to find a load that this gun would reliably feed, fire, and eject. By the way, the double action trigger is very smooth and I was pleasantly surprised that I was getting good 2-3 inch groups off hand on the five yard FBI "Q" target. Fixed sights were right on for both windage and elevation.
Next trip to the range saw me with three brands of ammo: 1) Remington standard velocity target ammo, 2) CCI mini mag, and 3) Winchester Wildcat ammo. Hands down, the Remington target ammo worked the best, with only one magazine jam, and no failure to fire in 100 rounds fired with that particular fodder. The Winchester wildcat was the next best in reliability. I was really disappointed in the CCI mini mag has I had numerous failure to fire, despite secomd strike capability with the double action trigger. Taurus does not recommend the hyper-velocity .22 ammo (ie., Stingers) in this firearm.
So, my advice with this .22 pocket auto, is to expect a 200 round break in period. Test several brands of .22 ammo. Bring your cleaning kit to the range and clean the gun between testing different brands. Once you find the ammo it prefers, it is a nice little plinker.
