I was just wondering what some of your views are when it comes to Taurus in opposition of European American Armory.

My Dad as the Taurus PT1911 and HIS gun is awesome; Shoots great, is accurate, very reliable... so I bought one myself.

Mine...however, was pretty much the opposite. I was shooting at 7 yards and wasn't able to cover my group with a basketball. I shot 100 rounds through it and had 6 FTF and 1 FTE. I didn't want to deal with sending the gun back over and over again, so I traded it for an EAA witness Elite Match in .45, and am VERY happy with my new purchase.

Because my Dad's Taurus IS a fantastic pistol, I was just wondering what everyone else prefers when it comes to those two brands in terms of reliability, cost, accuracy, customer service, etc. (although I know EAA customer service is Legendary for being terrible).

All views and opinions towards either brands will be appreciated.

I am a witness elit match owner and love the pistol. I have a 40s&w version and then bought the 9mm convertion kit. Payed 499 out the door about 6 months back . Most problems with semi-autos revolve around the mags on all of them . I have had 2 1911 pattern guns and treated them just like my witness. Take all the mags apart clean file all edges and lighly oil with break free, mic the frount and back of the openings and set all the same ,or at least try to and check chambering slowly by hand with one round and a loaded mag and check bullet angles to see if they all sit the same. I have around 2000rounds out of my witness with NO problems at all. It is just a better gun than i am a shooter with no optical help( old eyes). Customer severice i here can be spotty but there is a good following for these guns with support at( henningshotsguns )and a good forum at Brian Enos forums E.A.A. The gal at EAA is very nice and helpfull. Like most guns today you get a good one are one that needs some TLC. I almost bought a taurus 1911 when they were 525 localy.

I can't speak for EAA, but I have had mixed results from Taurus.

I have owned two Taurus firearms, a PT-140 Millenium Pro .40 S&W auto, and a Model 92-4 .22 LR revolver.

I was very impressed with the Millenium Pro's handling and ergonomics. I put about 1500 rounds through it (3 total failures--one bad primer and 2 FTE's with Blazer Brass, which it didn't like), and while my groups improved greatly I still felt like the trigger was holding me back. Ended up trading it in for an XDM.

My Taurus revolver was absolute trash. Cycled fine in the store without ammo, but would hang up every time on the range. Sent it in for repair, had it back in a month but the tolerances were now so loose you'd be doing well to hit a basketball at 15 yards in single action!

I have not dealt with their customer service personally; when I sent my gun back it was through a dealer. The trigger on the new Tauruses using their DA/SA striker system (the only true DA/SA striker-fired system I know of) seems to be much improved. I don't think I'll own another Taurus revolver, but I haven't ruled out another Taurus auto in the future. Don't have any personal experience with their hammer-fired autos, but the PT-92 is supposed to be a real winner--some even prefer it to the Beretta!

You may also want to consider Bersa if you're looking for a DA/SA hammer-fired auto. Their customer service is supposed to be great and everyone I know who owns a Bersa is quite happy with it.

About Taurus Customer Service. I dropped my PT111 which caused it to fail to feed regularly (avoid cheap holsters). I sent it to Taurus this Summer, they said it would be about 6 weeks. I got it back in 5 1/2 weeks and works great again as it did before, and they didn't charged me a penny.

I have a Witness Elite Match in 45 ACP and 38 Super, these guns are just an excellent product, fine trigger and match barrel, I shoot with guys that have 1,500 buck 1911's and they don't show me jack, I change minds every time I go to the range, ran 6,000 thru both my match pistols and narry a problem.
To each thier own.
Best wish's, Smokeyloads:)
