TC Contender action job

My grandfather is beginning to have a hard time opening his early Contender frame and it's my understanding the easy open conversion is neither available nor necessarily desirable.

When I look for "action job" all I see is trigger work, but does anybody do work to make the action open more easily and smoothly by working over the existing parts? Will they need his barrel to optimize this work?
