Ten Anti-Gun Bills introduced in House Yesterday

HR142 - Stop Online Sales of Ammo
HR65 - Prevent Children's Access to Firearms
HR93 - Regarding former FFL Dealers
HR21 - Greater Safety In Firearms

HR117 - Mandatory Licensing for Handguns
HR137 - Enforcing NICS Records Submission and Background Checks for all Sales
HR141 - Require Background Checks on All Sales at a Gun Show

Send a separate letter opposing each piece of the Anti bills introduced instead of just lumping them together in one opposing note.

Cite the bill number (e.g. HR 142), be specific about your expectations and keep your opposition simple. Do run a spell check and re-read before posting.

"I am opposed to HR 142 and expect you to do everything in your power to see that it does not become law.

The sale of ammunition, online or in stores, does not cause crime nor does it contribute to it. It does not make crimes worse. A criminal is only able to carry a fraction of what they might purchase so focusing on how much may be purchased is not a rational approach to controlling crime. As a law abiding voter that enjoys target shooting I can not condone Congress telling me that I must make endless trips to a local retailer to purchase ammunition wasting time, gas and money. As a consumer I can not condone Congress telling me that I can not use the internet to stretch what little money I have.

If you vote NO HR 142 and any other misguided legislation treating two hundred million voters like criminals I pledge my time and money to help ensure your reelection. If you support HR 142 or other similar legislation restricting my access to reasonably priced ammunition I pledge that I will passionately work to unseat you in the next election by dedicating my time and money to whatever opponent runs against you."

Believing that they do has no basis in reality and amounts to the superstitious belief that inanimate objects can possess us instead of our having God given free will. A criminally insane mass murder like Cho at Virginia Tech may carry as many 10 round magazines as they can physically carry to commit their heinous acts. Focusing on the capacity of a magazine is not a rational approach to controlling crime.

As a law abiding voter that enjoys target shooting and competition I can not condone Congress telling me that I must limit the magazine capacity of modern firearms I use and that my daughter who has begun to shoot with me has to look forward to paying higher prices for her sports equipment. As a consumer I can not condone Congress telling me that I won't be able to replace or repair the equipment I already own as it wears out.

If you vote NO HR138 and any other misguided legislation treating two hundred million voters like criminals I pledge my time and money to help ensure your reelection. I was shocked to see 10 bills, but happy that I could wake up one more day as a free American.

If you look to the box on the right of this webpage http://www.congress.org/news/ you'll see links to write to your federal and state officials. While it is vitally important to contact our Representatives and Senators it is also important to remember that individual states have a voice in this debate as well and that telling your Governor and Legislators that we expect their support is part of the fight. Those on the state and local level are even more beholding to you as constituents because their interests should be you and your state. Many governors have already stated that there will be no new restrictions on gun owners in their states (mine did, has yours?).

So, take the struggle to protect our right to keep and bear arms to your elected federal and state officials.

Submitted my letters (e-mails) on about half of those. While I'm sure the rest are evil I haven't seen the bill texts so going to wait on the others like the Blair Holt act.

That second link to congress.org makes it pretty easy to get all your congress critters at once.

Here's the state focused version of the HR138 letter to the fed. Note I used "Washington" to set our state apart from the outsiders wanting to impose their will on those of us in my state and changed the wording since our state officials can't "vote" on the bill. I also replace the voting population of the US with that of my state.
