My son just turned 16, got his first 'real' job albeit a temporary one. I'll spare the details but suffice it to say when he came home in the evening he was dirty and tired.
I asked him what he was going to spend his hard earned money on. In the past when he would save enough all his cash went towards video games/equipment. He said he was thinking about buying an "X-Box".
I told him that would be nice, but in a couple of years it would be gathering dust. If he put some money towards fixing up his Ruger 10/22 he would have it forever and would be a reminder of how hard he worked to earn the money. Left the decision up to him.

This morning he asked me to order a Hogue overmould stock and .920 barrel combo from Midway USA!

Still shopping around for other accessories to lighten up the trigger etc. Can't get too exotic, funds are limited and this is a plinker not a competition gun.

I've still got my 1st .22 my parents picked out for my 12th Birthday.
I don't have my first video game system or my first computer.
I say, "Atta boy" to your son.

We got him the 10/22 when he was about the same age. Sure wish I had kept the first one I had for my own. Don't even remember what brand it was, seems like Remington, but it was a pump action 22.
Still in possession of the first ones I shot though, Grandads Mossberg & Dads High Standard Double Nine.

At age 16 he'd be more than welcome at a Highpower match and in a Junior program...think he'd be interested? The Juniors of today are truly the Champions of tomorrow.
