My apologies to the club... I thought this had come up about a good 5 years ago and had been settled already.

I actually went back to look and see; couldn't find the first instance of the topic with the whole 137 pages and counting and everything...

..but my feeble mind is sure that it has come up in the past at least once or twice.

So Nem's on board (thank you, sir)... everybody okay with this? Any objections? Motion to accept?

no apologies necessary I was attempting to interject a little "Possum Lodge" style humor.
My sense of humor is a little vague so don't worry about it. I am often the only one laughing at my jokes.

Thanks MrDig!

I figured you were just jokin' around... but I didn't want to misunderstand and wanted to err on the side of caution.

I will go ahead and apologize for ruining the joke, though. :D

So this may be the wrong place, and I'm sorry if so. I figure the specialists would know. Has anyone found 170 grain jacketed bullets in stock? I've found 150s and lead 170s.
To be clear, I would like bullets only, not loaded ammunition.

Sorry this is late in replying. I found Federal Fusion 170 gr., but the jacket doesn't cover the nose of the bullet. It was sold at Fleet Farm, south of Minneapolis. It's out there, so keep looking. Good luck.

<Counts votes> Everybody's ok with it.

No objections.

Motion to accept? All in favor, say 'Ey'.

<1300 voters>

Ey!

Only thirty sleepers in the back where the beer is,
but we'll count their vote as 'yes'.
(You snooze, you lose.)

Motion carries.

Carry on.

336ER in 356 Win

Got this '84 336ER in 356 Winchester from my friends dad a few years back after bugging him forever about it. Got it's first deer with it this opening day at about 65 yards. The deer went about 20 after that. I'm sold on the 356 for Michigan woodland deer hunting; perfect combination of brush bucking power and speed. Only drawback is price of ammo:cuss:

I dropped a doe this morning with my 30AW. It was close, about 100 feet, and she provided the perfect side profile as a target.

356 Win, do you load your own? I now load all of my centerfire rifle ammo, and all of my revolver ammo. It makes shooting more enjoyable for me.

I have dies and will reload the 356. I'm about a years worth of experience into pistol reloading, less than that for rifle although my best results have been with my 700 ADL 243. Varget and Hornady 75 gr Vmax got it right off the bat with that rifle. Hope I get that lucky with my 336. Any suggestions?

Congrats rromeo. Is your 30AW in 30-30? Don't know much about that model but I do have a (Win 94) in 30-30 that I want to load for and would appreciate any tips.

Thanks Bob. I am looking forward to reloading this caliber and trying the 250 grain bulllet.

Mark

Sorry, I can't help with loading for .356 Win, and I just started with .30-30 so I'm not much help there. I guess one tip would be look hard for bullets. They're unobtanium around these parts.

Yes, mine is a .30-30. The 30 series guns use the sane 336 action with birch instead of walnut, and generally lower grade finish. They were sold at Walmart, Kmart, and other discount stores at lower price points than the 336.

For loading/reloading the 30-30 it is hard to beat the Papa John load.

(30.2 grain IMR-4895, 150 grain Rem CoreLokt) Use a Lee 2.2cc scoop for the power. Of course that assumes you can fine the bullets, brass, primers and power.

At least around here components are getting more available, but I haven't seen those bullets in a while. Cabela's does carry them, as does Midway and other stores.

You can search the web for more info. Shoots well out of my 336s and I have proved its ability to take a black-tailed buck.

Just placed an order on a 336Y, always wanted one with the 16" barrel/carbine style. And wanting to replace the wood stock to a black polymer stock set but can't seem to find any, anybody know where I can find a set? Thanks

to some of us Polymer Stocks on a lever gun verge toward blasphemous, myself included. To each their own I guess I think ATI makes one.

MrDig...your right cancell that then, looking for something even better

Does anybody know where i can get a ar15 stock adapter for my 336?

Oops, I did it again. I walked into the shop and a guy was cleaning this. I asked how much, $279, with 2 boxes of ammo. How much if you stop cleaning it right now? $250 and one box of ammo, although he ended up giving in with the second box.
It's a '76. The finish is a little spotty, but the wood isn't cracked or chipped, and the metal is in good shape.
